I think the negatives bantered around here are for the D400. I can't imagine anyone that doesn't like deep strong bass, present but smooth highs disliking the D600. I agree with previous poster about the D7000 being better but they don't isolate for crap.

Have you heard the 7100's? I still don't know whether to get the 7100's, 5000's, Terminator V4, or DX1000's after I sell my LCD-2.

I would steer you away from the 7100. They're way too overpriced at the $1200 price point. There's a lot better cans out there for that price. The LCD-2 would be a clear winner over the 7100. I think the D5000s would also be a lot better can.

That's like complaining that the Porsche 911 can't tow a trailer.

And now for something completely different (yet related...)

The Verdict

While the Denon Music Maniacs retain their value as a symbol that the audiophile industry has begun to accept their responsibility to the other senses, they still pale in comparison to consumer-oriented products.
While the car styling approach is unique and well-considered, other production, design, and manufacturing blunders dominate the overall impression of quality.

The most worthless "review" I have ever wasted time reading- gee, Denon is trying to look cool and compete with Beats (that's in every chain store in the world), what a surprise.

Yes, agreed. As I said, something completely different.

Reviewer obviously has no idea what headphones are used for!

I had only about 5-10 minutes with them, but can see they will have fans. I'm just not one as I really do like more sparkle in my music. The D7100 simply didn't have enough of it for me. They are nice, but they will have their fans and their detractors - very probably contenders for FOTM polarity contest.

Shigzeo, would you say that the DT900 600ohm have more sparkle than the D7100's?

This makes no sense- if I need to be isolated from my window air conditioner 6 feet away from me in summer, deadening that noise out is more important than about anything including ultimate sound quality.

D600 will provide you isolation you want plus sound quality but yes on some recordings mid-bass will be emphasized but i think it's recordings not headphones and you will get fast tight deep punchy well controlled bass classical, jazz rock, metal and some electronic (Jean Michele Jarre, Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode for example) demand

You probably mean DT990? THEY are not just sparkling in positive way they often harsh to unacceptable level while D7000 and D600 have it just right. I would agree that D5000 may be too bright for some since they are brighter than D7000 but this could be fixed with EQ while it's not the case with DT990 but i chose to keep D7000 as better all rounder but If I would have to buy headphones now and wouldn't able to find or afford D7000 D600 would be fine for me

Just auditioned the D400's through my E17... My how the mighty have fallen. I initially had every intention to post a super critical review, but it really isn't worth it. I compared these directly to my D2000's, albeit markL mod'd, and they didn't have a leg to stand on. Unfortunately I could not find a single redeeming quality about how they sounded. My Denon's may not be the best out there, but they absolutely destroyed the D400's in all categories I find important (sub-bass, musicality, etc). Cannot wait for the HE400's now...

The D400 really puts Denon's worst foot forward.  As I said in my impression, I am disappointed Denon put their name on them.  You may find the D600 compares MUCH more favorably to the D2000.

The Signature DJ isn't really a DJ headphone, just like the Signature Pro isn't a PROline headphone. it's a Signature headphone that had the designator slapped on it because they're making it bassy, so it's probably going to be more like the Edition 9 than anything else.

Ultrasone has DJ headphones that cost much less. Can't say if they're any good, but my guess is "no."

but the HFI-580 and PRO550 are good headphones.

I found similar results when I listened to the top end D7100 as well. You're in for a super treat with the HE400s. I recently heard them for the first time and I was FLOORED with how good they sounded!
