Strange how they had to bring the old K701 back bump-free, while its newer brothers, the K702 and Q701, still have bumps on 'em.
its strange....I prefer the bumps by far, to my buddy's AKG's which have the flat headband.
I was finally lucky enough to try the two new heavyweights today (Sennheiser HD-800, and AKG K-812) and they are both gorgeous gorgeous sounding headphones.
But alas, they're both similarly too gorgeous.
What I mean by that, is that they have noticable dips around 2khz-2.5kkz (the shrill frequency range humans find sonically dissonant), and both have slightly heavy bass, as well as a fair amount of "beautiful" 2nd and 3rd order harmonic distortion. (Which is universally pleasing to the human ear)
So while these two are literally the most pleasant and beautiful sounding headphones I've ever heard. They're not of use to me. As a recording engineer and sound designer, I need the clearest, most uncolored, least harmonically distorted, and detailed tool I can own.
And thankfully, I already owned it
(my trusty K-701)
I was glad I could save my $1500 !
Thank you head-Fi !
