39 of those 6sn7(p) TO 6j5 adapters have been sold. Who have been buying them. :relaxed:

You know the story behind why they were called 'to 6J5'............ because we didn't want to confuse Mrs X.

Yes I hear you Mordy. When I type 6BX7, I also mean 6BL7. Just too lazy to type both. Both sound great in Ultimate.
OK , so I kind of forgot about the 6BX7/6BL7 . With this adapter can we use it in both the driver and power tube sockets ?

You cannot use them as drivers because each 6BX7 is 1.5 ampere. It will exceed the limit for sure. They are to be used as power tubes even though the label says 6SN7(P) to 6J5.

There are better drivers than use these as drivers.

Theoretically you could use them as input if you use an EZ80 as rectifier (draws 0.6A) which should tax the transformer 2.1A with 6BX/BL7 as input which is within 10% margin but the resulting sound doesn't make this worthwhile. You have better input tubes.

That is if you're using a single 6BX7 in the 6SN7 slot. @crakers7 is asking about using them as a pair in the 6J5 slots using the 6SN7(P) to 6J5 adapters.

Interesting drivers tubes. I have both of these and a pair of Reflector 6N30P-DR in my DNA Sonett2. Need adapters for these, right?

6H30Pi use 6922 (ECC88) to 6SN7 adapter. You will use one of this in the 6SN7 slot. It's a double triode.

With the 6S45P and 6S15P, you use an adapter into 6S3P adapter. So 2 adapters. :) These are single triode.

Eric reckons they are good drivers so I will give it a go.

Also will be trying Mullard EL84 and 7189.... and RCA 6L6GC black plates. And Russian FT-3 caps. Will be an interesting Sunday.

6922 don't sound as good, the stage is narrow but everything is a bit more intimate.
At least that's what my Phillips showed me, there are certainly better 6922s, but even then the price has become a bit high.
Apart from the price, the 6BQ7A sound better than the 6922.
The stage is a little wider and more open, it remains more intimate, but the overall sound is also better.

I'm glad you like the 6BQ7A. They are use as drivers in DNA Stratus. The other being the 6N1P.

UltimatE with Electro Harmonix 6H30Pi gold pin. The sound is very similar to 6S3P. After so many driver tubes, and I can say that my favorite are the C3G and 5A/152M tubes.

Very hard not to like c3g. My love for c3g goes all the way back to 2016 with Elise. In the early days, the first favourite pairing in Elise was ECC31 and 5998. Then it was c3g and 5998. I have had both and they are indeed good. That is way before people start using KT88 as drivers in poor Euforia. :relaxed:

c3g followed me all the way with GOTL which was built with dedicated c3g slots. Some didn't like the c3g because they felt that it is way too incisive and cutting edge. It can get a little edgy with c3g and 6 x 6bx7 but if you want your brains jot out of sleep, this pairing is it. :relaxed:

c3g in Ultimate is more forgiving to my ears. It is still revealing but it is more settled and doesn't pierced the ears.

6S3P sounded more natural and if EH 6H30Pi is very similar to it, then I need to try it.

Hey Matt,
yes, the 6BQ7A are really very good.
I will certainly buy some more.
Since you're going to Eric's soon, can I ask you to ask Eric if there's a lower gain driver tube that's below 12Au7/6Sn7 that would be driveable in the Ultimate?
I ask because the EL84 with 12AU7/6SN7 is still quite powerful.
Maybe there is something that would fit.
Have fun with Eric and give him my best regards.
It will certainly be informative.
