Here is a potentially useful article for you regarding itunes vs amazon vs google play:
http://digwhich.com/2014/02/14/best-online-music-store/

Other notes:

- soundcloud: most often at 320kbps. You can download many of them, so look for the "download" button.

- bandcamp: is a great source for unique and new music. The albums are usually well priced, and quite often they are "name your price", which means zero if you want. Also, they can be downloaded in 320kbps mp3 format, or flac lossless format - your choice. For example, here's a few interesting "name your price" albums:
https://thepolishambassador.bandcamp.com/album/quests-end
https://photocomfort.bandcamp.com/album/photocomfort
https://aesthesys.bandcamp.com/album/ascendere

- ektoplazm: really cool "free and legal psytrance, techno, and downtempo music in MP3, FLAC, and WAV format". Here's just a few of the many that I like:
http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/hinkstep-sunrise-from-the-treetops
http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/phone-booth-robbers-falling-into-one
http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/amygdala-modus-operandi
http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/sephira-imagination-in-motion (forward to the Learning To Walk track)

- the Official Free FLAC File Music Sharing Thread is a great thread for finding free flac tunes. I really have enjoyed these ones that I discovered in that thread:

Will definitely do. MikrosSonusBass + 1/4 by 1/4 inch felt at the bottom of cup = HearThruBass. Got it.

I just have to get over the fear of snapping the wire and wrecking the hole tape. Wrecking the hole tape is ok - that just means I'm committed to the mod. Snapping the wire is not so ok - that means that I suddenly go into severe Mikros 90 withdrawl!

Ok, that's somewhat reassuring. I know that Lorspeaker must have opened and closed his approx 1000 times as well, and I don't think he's broken the wires yet. So good to know.

About the bass being too much, I'm a bit confused because Lorspeaker and Pataburd haven't complained about too much bass with the HOLE completely opened up. Maybe the way Lorspeaker dampened the cups is how he's controlling the bass?

Seems likely because I'm not using putty... don't really have any around and too lazy to buy some haha. (its stickier and seems like a thinner layer than what Lorspeaker is applying). Combined with the fact that I think my preferences are slightly bass light because I've gotten so used to the q701.

Well, seems like its time to scavenge up some felt pads with that new mod lol.

Modded my mod, I didnt have felt padding in first try , I got some felt dots, put one right in the middle, covered 1/2 of the hole with masking tape , that seems to manage the bass better for me, as before the SS was shifted to the bass side and distracting. Live with it this way and see how I like it, will A/B with an un modded pair to try and judge how tunable my method is. One thing I noticed, and it might have some effect, is the tube that goes up into the headband is open to the cup, so it might work like a ported sub, it greatly increases the volume of air the chamber, and might add some loading to enhance the bass, I'm curious, was this an intended design, or a happy accident ? I hope it was design brilliance. Think of it too, as bass tube wrapped up each side of you skull, transmitting sub-bass notes through the headband and ear cup contact points. Or, I am just over thinking it.

Actually, this the most fun thread on the site. No elitist crap here…and nobody takes things too seriously.

Any idea how these might even compare against other headphones like the HD-25, Momentum, DT1350? I'm sure they compare extremely well, if not blow them out of the water though :p

They are better than the HD25 and the Momentum, IMO.   The HD25 and the Momentum have more mid-bass, but the Mikros has more sub-bass...and the bass in general is more balanced and refined.  The DT1350 and the Mikros are very similar - I own and love both models.  The Momentum replaced my HD25...and I sold my Momentum after I bought the Mikros (the Mikros unexpectedly replaced the Sennheiser).

I don't think the Mikros blows the Sennheisers out of the water, but the ML is better (IMO).  I would probably chose the DT1350 over the Mikros because the Beyer has some of the best bass in the business.  The M90 has a wider soundstage than the DT1350, so it's a close call.

The Momentums are really comfortable -- I wish an over the ear Mikros existed.
