What are the SS amps that's giving this color you don't like. Most SS amps should be more on the neutral side.

Gotcha..
Yes and no, we are talking about Mad Dog related things.
For the money and if your a solid state users these things are GREAT, and they isolate awesomely! Heck these are on my Can list, I was a PROUD owner of these. When I get my BIG Tube in I might try again [or maybe I'll get a O2 Amp and see how that works]
Still Mad dogs are great closed cans, just not for tube lovers.
And for the record, replacing the mad dogs brought me to the ath w1000x
Omg... wooden cupped Mad Dogs :O cmon dan xD I know you can DO IT
I'd personally suggest the Magni as I feel the Mad Dogs perform better when they're fed ≥ 750mW. That's just a personal opinion though. The amps I have drive the MD's at about 768mW, 960mW, 1.54W, and 6W. I do feel they get better with more power

I know, although I dropped an extra $100 for new L3000 pads, which apprently Tighten up the bass and add a little punch to the mids [making em a little less warm] so I think the combo will be what I was hoping for with teh Mad Dog, I want a Mid forward can with TIght n bright airyness and SOUND stage, the Clear Top RCA tube I had added all of that the Mad Dogs, it cleaned the bass up, aired the treble a wee bit and toned the mids dwn... still though even the hybrid tube had to much mid for the mad dogs, as a number of my songs where CRAZY honky.
So I am happy I got the Mad Dogs, my first can that got me into the direction of getting the ATH w1000x! Imight have NEVER gotten it without you dan <3

Can someone please measure the inside dimensions of the Alpha pads. The space where the ears have to fit in. Not the depth, but the width and length.
I want to be sure my big ears have enough room with the Alpha pads before buying.
Thanks.
It amaze me how a simple change of pads can alter the sound of the overall headphones. Made me think that is the reason why certain headphones look and shape the way how it is. Your description of how you want the mad dog sounds like what I wanted with the Mad Dog except I find the bass to be fine, maybe a little bit more impact.
a woodie mad dog, now that is a thought. Although I would imagine it would be harder to do base on the shape of the ear cup, rises in certain area of the cup, attachment of the arm, and the hole for the wire connector and all. I'm not a specialist in mods, so just speculation. I do like the sound of woodies though, so I can see your attraction to the W1000X although I don't really like the wood they chose just slightly plain. If it had wood like the the W3000 Anv with the same price, I would be all over it. I hope when you get your W1000X, the mids will sound somewhat like an ortho such as the Mad Dog. As I find the mad dog mids pretty darn good. But then again, I can see the At mids will sound fine, as I always have a thing for AT's mids.
