Simple question: Can I use a 50k linear pot for either the volume or the bass boost on an M3?
Reason: I have a semi-finished M3 and two Alps Black Beauties lying around (both 50k but one is linear and the other is log taper)

I'd say try it out without the bass boost first and see if you're happy with the sound. If you want the bass boost then you can cut the jumper and install the parts related to bass boost. With a linear pot the bass boost will probably be uneven and kick in near the extremes.

Thanks, but I have one already and I definitely want the bass boost installed from the beginning. How about law-faking the linear and using it for volume?

That's what I would do. Stick 12k or so in parallel with your pot (from the wiper to ground). It's not perfect in theory but I do it all the time and it really doesn't bother me.

Your pot will be an heavier load on your source though but it's not usually a worry today.
