By higher signals, do you mean treble? - the 890s do seem to have a wider soundstage than the CD1700s that i'm comparing them against... then again, one if open-backed... and one is closed... thats a whole different argument...

If you can clear up exactly what you mean, and i'll try to see if I can hear the same thing

I don't mean "higher" as in higher frequency. I mean slightly louder, as if extremes of right and left were a little "pumped up" in comparison to the center stage.

just now, listening to some maracas [sp?] they are VERY far to the left... so you could have a point...

I'll have to find some reference CDs (damn... wish I had some binaural ones

) and compare these 890s to the ultra wide soundstage of the A900s I have...

The 50mm drivers on the 890 may create a better center stage than the 40mm drivers on the 820. So I wouldn't be too surprised if you're not hearing exactly what I'm hearing.

I do like the 820, though subtle it ain't. But I'm probably returning mine to help pay for the HD590 I just ordered....
