I just got the link from JVC Japan website, too bad I cant read the katakana very well, but then i can just use google translator. I know the size of driver is different, but if you look at the pic tho, seems that they added quite some metal structure here and there.

To answer your question:
JVC seems to have added two ring dampers, one damper, and a piece of glasswool (as sound absorber) into FX700. And from the pictures you provided, FX700 utilises two brass ring (the shiny gold metals in the picture) to mount the driver whereas FX500 only uses one. So (for inner part of housing) there is actually one more piece of metal in FX700 compared to FX500

Thanks for the explanation, well it seems that those things, and a bigger driver make a difference of almost $200 in price...

By the way, have anyone with FX 700 auditioned Monster Miles Davis yet? I would definitely want to read some review before pulling the trigger on FX 700...or should i go straight to a JH13...
IE8+FX700+pico slim+d4 mamba ~ one JH13

I haven't heard the FX700's but having owned the IE8 and a good portion of higher end universal IEM's and now having heard the demo's of the JH13's I'd have to say it's a no-brainer, if you can afford the 13's go for those.

I think you're going to have to wait until cn11 gets the FX700. He's probably the only one who will be having them both shortly.

I can afford jh13 but I won't even consider it because I get ear pressure when anything is inserted deep in my ears.when I sell my d5000 I will get both fx700 and ortos and my hd650 at home for a relaxed listening.

The FX700 and FX500 have about the same soundstage, pretty wide and spacious, but a tad below the IE8. I'm a sucker for good soundstage, because it makes overall presentation more realistic to my ears, and I don't feel it lacking on both JVCs.

Regarding vocals, they are certainly quite recessed on the FX500 and noticably improved on the FX700, but you can bring out the mids nicely on the FX500 with a simple foam mod. So, considering it's $140 for the FX500 vs. $320 for the FX700, if my main gripe would be recessed vocals I'd foam mod the FX500 and be done. However, taking into account better controlled bass and vastly improved treble on the FX700, I'd recommend choosing the FX700 over the FX500 to anyone who can afford it, even though the price spread is substantial.

Thanks James. I placed my order a little while ago...no foam modding! Oh, and I have another [expensive] toy on the way too from closer to your neck of the woods

Cn11...

I really hope that you HATE the FX700 compared to your MTMD... I really cannot afford to get any more IEMs, so, now having the Coppers, I am desperately hoping that I didn't make the wrong choice lol

I am sat eagerly awaiting your initial impressions

I should be getting mine tomorrow

While I really like the Copper, the one thing I miss with them is they don't have the widest soundstage. The FX500, if I remember correctly was a little wider, and of course the IE8 is waaaay wider. We shall see!

Yeah, can't wait for your comparison for Monsters Miles Davis and FX-700.

Contrary to what Duncan said, I actually hope that they can compete with the Miles Davis
very_evil_smiley.gif
, which has received a lot a lot of attention lately. I mean, FX-700 comes at a pricetag of ~$330, while the Miles Davis can be bought with $250 at onecall.com, if FX-700 is not equal/better than Miles Davis, then it will really be kind of overpriced.

Hopefully it's really good, so more people will get it, and then more reviews, more competition, and price will go down

damn you guys... I remember grooving around with my old FX500's. Reading all this is making me want to jump on the 700's. Once i get rid of a couple things, i could end up with a pair of these on the way.
