I'm search for getting my iPod to output digitally, I found only 2 docks:

Onkyo ND-S1
WADIA 170i

But in my world the perfect solution would just to have an iPod connector with a toslink digital cable, it should be possible, or am I just dreaming?

That's what those docks are for

Also take a look at http://cypherlabs.com/Products.php for a portable dock with SPDIF out.

Ok, so the connection needs some kind of hardware, but still it should be possible.

It is possible.  Alpine worked hand in hand w/ Apple to make the first truly digital connection between a Car's head unit and an iPod.  This was about 2-3 years ago.

Fostex was working on something, Sasaki reported it. About time, my H120 needs some rest.

yep, still not portable, there are q few options for digi out from an idevice at home, or in a car; but only a couple portable and both are a bit pricey. glad ive got an ipad for that (camera connection kit is cheap and actually sounds quite good), looks like my iriver wont be retired just yet for more portable situations though

x2. Cypher Lab's AlgoRhythm Solo is probably your best (and smallest) bet.

We'll see how long it will take before the chinese copy AlgoRhytm Solo and release a version costing 200 dollars instead of 600 dollars.
Perhaps they will produce LODs with digital out based on AlgoRhytm Solo.

What termination would they use? Coaxial?
