anyone use this dap with ba iems or hybrids? I'm getting the impression that pairing these with dark/bass oriented iems seems to work quite well. (I was just thinking of getting an er4 or maybe an as rockets in the sometime future)

The new modified 770C which apparently is replacing the original 770C and the 770 has the Wolfson DAC 8740.  So any dealers advertising the 770C with the Wolfson DAC 8718 are selling the original 770C.  So, if you want the new 770C make sure you buy one with the 8740 DAC.

and whats the pic, is grey case smaller than black one?

This a picture comparing the size of the new 770C (black unit) with DAC 8740 to the original 770C (grey unit) with the DAC 8718.  So if you buy the new modified 770C (which comes in either black or grey casing), then it will have the size/shape of the player on the left.  If you purchase the original 770C (which also come in either black or grey), then it will have the size/shape of the player on the right....

The 770s pair nicely with the Westone 2s.  I have the Er4s, but I don't like the sound match I get with any of the Xuelin players, but this could just be due to my sound preferences...

Man, they could have made it a lots less confusing if they'd called the new 770c a 780 or something.

This player is not very friendly with every combination of depth/sample rate thrown at.

le : moreover, depending of th emethod used to store the file (codec, software etc) two theoretically the same kind of files (same format, depth, sample rate) may not work. I'm fine with that.

le2 : for example if I convert this file http://www.lindberg.no/hires/test/2L-093/2L-093_stereo-96kHz_03.flac to 24 bit flac 44100 Hz, I get a "blank" sounding file. No music coming from. I guess that the source file matters also. IDK.

le3: the same settings, but for 16bit works flawless. I guess bit depth  bugs it. Can anyone tell me an audio convertor that supports flac 24 bit (not 32)?

I stop messing with all those formats long ago. Just stick with 320kbps or Flac.
Years ago, a sound engineer from a tech trade show I spoke to told me, unless you live in a perfect world and own the best sound system in each category, it's not gonna make that big of a different.
It does hold true to a certain degree, just go with what sounds good to you and what you can afford.
Meanwhile for all those audiophilliac out there check out this interesting article, see if you can hear the different.

If it makes you feel any better, none of the Xuelin players supports 24 bit FLAC files, just 24 bit WAV files.....
