Makes sense to me. I'm assuming the IEM partners bought 1K units upfront. This would give iFi a nice cash infusion. In return, the IEM manufactures have a differentiated bundle than helps sell their IEMs. These companies aren't AAPL selling tens of millions of airpods. I'm guessing an incremental 1K units of sales for iFi and IEM manufacturers is a nice bump.

Firstly, that's a silly assumption as no IEM company will actually pay for that and bear the whole financial risk that allows only iFi to gain all the benefit. The sensible deal for both sides will be to give mutual discount on the retailer level. Besides, we are not talking about ONE IEM company + iFi, but multiple IEM companies here that share the whole 1K units. Some of these companies will make more money out of the deal than other, so it will never be an equal deal for everyone if they all pay together for the whole 1K units. If you run any company that like to risk so much for others, you won't be in business for long.
Secondly, there isn't anything stopping iFi to offer the GO Pod alongside with its bundle at the SAME time. Fostex sells its adapter along with its IEM bundle, Shure does the same and so are FiiO, TRN, QDC and iBasso (*and that's almost everyone that make BT earhooks). At least for me, the whole 'you-don't-know-better-about-IEM-so-you-don't-get-to-buy-first' vibe leaves a sour taste in my mount. But maybe it is just me.
Yep! Agree 100%!! It does not make any sense to me to hold the individual sale of the go pod because they wanna first sell 1000 paired with different IEM.
It is extremely limiting for buyers, only if you are interested in the iFi product AND also were looking to buy one of those IEM they are selling together, then it will be a deal since they have a discount on the final price. But still, to risky with so little opinions on the go pod.
Partnerships are structured in many ways with many different companies and should be honored when struck!
Although a bit inconvenient for those looking for a standalone unit at "this moment" in time, this moment will surely pass!
And then perhaps new partnerships can be formed, with honor and integrity, I for one look forward to more collaborations like this one, with far more companies included not just iFi.
Sounds like a co-marketing agreement that gets iFi more visibility for a new product being able to offer it in bundle sales with existing products in exchange for an agreement with each of the other manufacturers to sell the bundles only (and this ensure some unit sales of the partnered products) before offering the standalone version.
Hopefully iFi don't go down this route again. Nearly two weeks since "launch" and the people most likely to want to buy one (eg people who already have IEM's) cannot do so because the partnered IEM/Go Pod combos are presumably selling as quickly as chocolate Easter Eggs in July.
Launch announcements and immediate availability are often not concurrent a quick check of the webpage dropdown menu shows not only some "sets" getting down in stock, but some "sets" include a 14-21 day shipping window.
As the webpage also shows this is a collaboration with the IEM "partners" and although not ideal for everyone, I am sure that the GO Pod standalone will be available in due time.
Sorry to those who have to wait just a bit longer!
My initial thought would be in terms of warranty, it would apply by the manufacturer to each product, iFi for GO Pods, and for the IEMS whatever their particular warranty is, each would handle its own claims.
I would also think the "Bundle" would be subject to the return policy of the place of purchase, most if not all are 30 days.
