If you still love Etymotic ER4, this is the thread for you...

Thanks Dave! It's a beauty to look at and play. I love it so much I haven't considered getting another one.

Do you sell the cases for the new phones separately? The pouch that I store my ER4-S's in is very tight especially with the adapter and it contorts the shape of the ear tips! I would love to have some more room for them if possible.

You like one guitar so much you haven't considered getting other guitars?  What is this madness you speak of?

We do sell the new cases on our website.  You can find them here if you click on "Accessories."

I did notice that they sell this case back before I bought the SRs. Looks like it might be around the same size as the one w/ the new earphones if I'm not mistaken.

That one is a bit smaller than the ER4 case.  The new ER4 case is roughly 6.25" x 4.25" x 2.00" and the one in that link is 5.25" x 3.50" x 1.25"

If the one in the Amazon link is like the one I have, it's plenty roomy. I bought it a year or two ago. Has room on the left side for the er4's and an extra cable, and on the right side I have extra tips and filters. I even stick the portable thumb drive that I use to record the church services in the netting on the outside. Really handy case.

Haha! The madness is I have been married for almost 14 years with two kids. I do have a 4 and 5 string bass and a BR180 Blueridge Acoustic.

Thanks for the info. I will probably order one soon. Have to take inventory on filters and other accessories first.

Please help. Are the Etymotic ER-4XR CE-approved as hearing protection? Reason for asking is that suddenly the company I work at are handing out these Peltor HTB026 EarBuds for us to use and say that equipment that isn't CE-approved as hearing protection is forbidden to use. Needless to say I'm not too happy about it since I've been using ER4 as hearing protection for 15 years.

I'm wanting to replace the cable on my ER-4S. The main thing I want is a cable that won't create a bunch of noise when they rub up against something.
I've asked a little bit and someone told me that these were decent cables.

I also don't wanna spend a bunch on them.

Note that none of those taobao cables has any resistor built in, which means you won't be getting the exact same sound as 4S.

I have an S-converter.

I have an S-converter.

You will need a 100ohm adapter for a 4S. A typical P-to-S adapter is 75ohm, as the 4P's cable already has around 27ohm or so. Taobao's cables don't have any resistor in them so they are just one ohm or so - with a P-to-S adapter, it probably sound somewhere between a 4P and a 4S.

Oh, so, what cables would I get for them then?

I don't know anyone who currently makes an one-piece 100ohm 4S cable. But those Taobao cable should still work if you can get a new 100ohm impedance adapter,

Unfortunately, they are not CE approved as hearing protection, but our HD series is.

Thanks Dave... maybe a niche accessory for the new ER4... a yellow replacement cable that limits the maximum output and thus becomes CE approved as hearing protection

About the HD series... why not advertice the CE conformity in your documentation? I've yet to find this information when looking through your pdf documents. I'll need some easy to understand booklet that has an easy to unterstand statement that it's indeed CE approved (similar to the Peltor picture I attached earlier).

Brgds... /Thomas
