Then a software maybe? Hmm... The ability to switch from 3D headphone mode and 3D speaker mode. Best of both world!

But they keep my asleep! I have sleeping problem! I sleep at 10 and wake up at 6 everyday be it I have school or work or whatsoever -.- been dying for someone who can make me sleep longer T.T

Hi,

What differentiates the 3D Holographic Systems by iFi are:

1. We have two distinct circuits, one is tailored for Headphones (iCAN) and the other for Speakers (iTUBE) - very rare.

2. ALL done in the analogue domain. With Analogue Signal Processing as opposed to Digital Signal Processing, the signal remains Bit-Perfect. No loss.

But if done in software a la others with DSP, it is lossy and sound quality inevitably suffers. DSP is cheaper and easier but we like to make it hard on ourselves. We're gluttons for punishment.

Last but not least, the "3D Wotnot" in DSP setups is usually basic "crossfeed." (you already get that in JRMC)

If you go through the iCAN reviews, you will notice quite a few people say it just 'does not sound like simple crossfeed.' Well, because it is not.
Put it another way, people do this
L3000.gif
when they listen with our 3D Holographic. With the other '3D Wotnot" people do this

Guess we really have to squeeze 3D Holographic in. Holy cow.

Squeeze in the 3D not the cow xD it's too big don't wanna hear MOOOOOOOOO when I'm listening to my music although it would be a nice add while listening to "What does the fox say"

What about a switch on the iDSD itself where we can switch between 3D headphone and 3D speaker? That would satisfy both speaker and headphone user. At the same time, new function :D but I am not extremely sure if that would work, no engineer here hehe

Hallo from Greece...
Well I haven't read the whole thread so excuse me if I am repeating things!!

Given the fact that the DAC will be as fully spec'ed as the nano I would like it to have the best analog stage and power supply as possible.. with all this spec mania that we have we tend to forget the basic basics :) !!!!
A LifeP04 battery will be very wellcome I think!!! Of course it should be able to work plugged in the wall too
I don't know what to "want" regarding the can amp matter... from one point of view I think that a DAC only option will be best for the sound from the other the amp (especially if it is powerfull enough and with low output resistance) will be a very convenient option...
As for the conection with the computer I would like it to be galvanicaly isolated and the usb interface powered from the supply and not from the computer!!

Even though I don't currently own any ifi product I am considering the iDSD and of course this "baby"....

Continue the nice job!!!

Actually, this is just a thought, if you're looking to go USB-only, would be be an idea to have 2 usb inputs? One for the mac/pc and another for the phone? Probably a bit ask, but one can be disabled when another is plugged in may be?

Doesn't the USB in iDSD nano does that already? it works with iDevices with CCK... making another design and squeezing is not ideal eh? IMO

I was thinking about having 2 actual usb sockets. One can be connected to the computer and the other to an idevice/android phone. Can work by a selector switch or one cam just mute when the other is connected. Saves plugging/unplugging the computer from the usb port and saves going around the back of the idac to plug/unplug things all the time.

iFi should now design a block! Like a wall consisting all the plugs, when we need them, just slot those iCan/iDAC/iTube etc into the box... Sound crazy and costy though @.@ but at least, no cable to be seem xD

One more.

Balance control on headphone out.

Thanks

I suggest three things as below.
1. It is really necessary to attach PCM filter switch function? May use a push switch or setting by software.
2. Need various types of input including COAXIAL input.
3. Volume knob is too slippery, better to use saw-tooth type knob to avoid slipperiness.
Thx

quiet weekend, looks like all the skunkworks is done

Only the moment of tranquillity before the lightning strikes!

- we had meetings over the weekend pouring over all the inputs - some we can test out quite quickly and some may take a little longer.

Besides the ongoing micro iDSD design inputs in the skunkworks, we have an online interview with our Thorsten Loesch to go live this week lifting the lid on the whole PCM/DSD recording/playback chain....it is jam-packed full of silicon-die level information that is far from run of the mill.

It will also shed more light how how and why people should also take into account the ADC used for music which forms the first half of the whole equation. While the DAC only forms the second-half, many are fixated on this.

Update: the cat is outta the bag! It has gone live....

AMR/iFi - Thorsten Loesch Grilled Down to the Silicon-Die Level
In an exclusive interview with Michael Lavorgna of AudioStream, Thorsten Loesch lifts the lid on:
- his atypical audio education (when he was 12, he built a 100W hifi system for his school project)
- his thoughts on the whole DSD vs PCM recording/playback subject
- why tubes are lovely
- the future of HD audio
- why he is a qualified "Tonmeister"
and a few other audio-related issues in-between!

Hi and welcome,

iFi doesnt do things by half so if you have a chance, have a listen to the iDAC and you will get a sense of what this little "pocket rocket" can do. The micro iDSD will roll off from the same production line.

Yes - the battery is unanimous as the nano iDSD has already told us that to shift high volume, it needs to appeal to the portable market and therefore it needs to be self-powered.

Galvanically-isolated is par for the course for iFi! The micro iDSD will have it and other attention to detail to ensure the highest purity of signal path. Check out the nano iDSD. This is a winning formula for us and the user feedback has been the same.

Touch base with Audio Soul (iFi Greece). Feel free to go and audition the iFi "big rig" with your headphones.

Hi,

1. Not essential - but we like our customers to choose the last 5% as we all have a slightly different take on what we like the most.

2. Co-Axial output already seen on the nano iDSD - if you need co-axial input also, let us know why your system has this requirement? (as we are always interested in the various types of setups out there)

3. Unlikely to happen as the current vol knob has gone down as having a "nice feel" and the analogue pot exudes a touch of luxury (besides better sonics over a "freebie" digital volume control).

Keep it up!
