The only way I was able to hear a difference was using test tracks that went below 90hz. The effect then became dramatically apparent. For my normal listening, the switch made no difference at all and at first I thought I had a defective unit.

+1. The bass boost is subtle, 3D much more apparent. However, the most impactful difference, even after adjusting for equivalent volume, is going to turbo mode. With that, my Senn. HD600 cans (300 ohm) bloom, sing and even grumble down low...if only that power mode weren't so power hungry ( I listen portably in addition to via PC -->DAC). The only potential negative of turbo. is that while clearly more detail and "in your head" sound presence I found turbo mode sessions to be a bit more fatiguing. For sustained non-critical listening, standard power represented a great balance between a great experience, battery life and minimal fatigue.

Overall, very happy with the iDSD.

EISA award video

Little Big iFi in Berlin

Source: http://ifi-audio.com/audio_blog/little-big-ifi-jets-off-to-berlin-to-bring-home-the-eisa-award/

We have been a bit quite of late - partly because of the micro iDSD launch, partly because of the show season and partly because of the EISA award for the nano iDSD.

With regards to the latter, given the very plush EISA awards ceremony, we just had to made a very brief video of our trip over to Berlin and share it with you all.
And we made it a little light-hearted too.

Once again, thank you to all the EISA judges and to our all our customers for supporting the nano iDSD.

3 Steps: Micro iDSD "DoP pop fix" via Firmware Upgrade

With native DSD playback, on some audio software playback programs, the "pop" issue is dealt with/not dealt with. This is an upstream characteristics of native, DSD playback and varies from system to system.

A little background here:
http://ifi-audio.com/audio_blog/pop-goes-dsd-why-does-this-happen/

We have developed a downstream solution for this upstream issue.

Preparation:
i. Ensure you have the latest iFi Windows Driver (v2.20) from here:
http://ifi-audio.com/download/

ii. Go here: http://ifi-audio.com/micro-idsd-ifi-xmos-firmware/
And save the firmware file “idsdv406.bin” to a folder of your choice (eg. Downloads)

iii. Connect the MICRO iDSD to a Windows computer  (OS X is not possible).

After this upgrade:

Win users (DoP)
With JRMC, the upstream “pop” issue from the source is virtually non-existent. With Foobar2K, there is still some residual “pop” hence we recommend JRMC until F2K catches up.

OS X users (DoP)
Using Audirvana, the upstream “pop” issue from the source is much reduced.

iPhone/iPad users (DoP)
With Onkyo HF player, the “pop” issue has gone. With Hibiki, there is still a residual “pop”.

We hope you find this firmware update useful.

If you have any further questions, please open a support ticket here:

Thank you.

Couldn't find an answer for this in the search feature. How long will this thing be able to operate on turbo mode when plugged into a laptop with standard USB ports (assume I'm using he6s)?

For laptop or PC, you can use USB power; drawing power directly from the USB instead of the battery built in the Micro iDSD. This mode will last forever. In battery mode, running turbo mode is 6 hours of playback.

To toggle USB power: switch on Micro iDSD after you have connected to the USB.

To toggle battery mode: switch on Micro iDSD before connecting to USB.

Using the line in of Micro iDSD will run on battery mode.

Hope it helps
Billson :)

This thing can output 4 watts from a USB port? I was under the impression it took the battery+usb power ("like a hybrid" as they stated) to get to that level when plugged into a laptop. The battery won't eventually run out? I find that crazy.
