I don't hear any difference between HD and Vintage on 84 or 85.
My ears are a bit damaged from years of playing in bands, so I got a young person to have a listen, ipod fanboy, but he couldn't hear any difference either.

Out of curiousty,

Does that ipod fanboy can hear a difference between the ipod and HM901? Considering you use the exact same files, the same iem/headphone and if possible volume level matched.

I've always been hard pressed to hear any difference between the HD and Vintage settings.  Like yourself, it could be attributable to hearing loss from years of loud concerts.

So what should we be hearing ?

How do I know its not stuck on Vintage ?

I can hear a difference with the right IEM. But even so, I don't think anyone will say the difference is night and day, just that there will be a bit better extension and sparkle.

The question, is it really that important when you can't tell the difference yourself?

I hooked it up and did an RMAA test. You can do it with any PC soundcard with input.

that is VERY cool,

I am downloading 6.4.0

now the dumb questions

What 901 output and cable did you use?
the LOD to USB silver one?
Or was it from the headphone output ?

and where do I plug into on my PC, line in ? or USB?

'The headphone-out. You can measure the line-out using the break-out cable if you want to, but it won't make any difference on the FR curve as amp module has no impact on it.

The easiest way to do it is to generate a wav file from RMAA, load it up to HM901, connect the DAP to soundcard input with a 3.5mm IC, use a recording software (i.e. Audacity) to record the playback, export it out from the recording software as wav files, then load the wav file in RMAA. This won't give you the most accurate result on noise and other parameter unless you calibrate the loudness, but at least the FR curve should be more or less correct.
