Does this mean that Dr. Fang thinks there is an issue with the treble?

No, it just means that early impressions should be taken with a grain of salt.

Due to the larger driver, extended burn-in may be required before the driver completely settles down.

How much burn-in do you suggest? Also, how long is the Beta period?

Just enjoy the headphones. They might change much quicker than you'd think.

Beta is going to be 4 weeks or a month if you will.

Likely will be extended...given the delays.

Any word yet on where the first batch sent to the US is currently at, or when they will actually arrive in the US?
Thanks.

Given the delays, will the launch of the retail HE1K be delayed?

Not so much "bright" as the rest (not sure who said that), but rather different kind of bright. HE-1000 had a bit of "splashy" treble, but preferable compared to HE-560 (harsh / sibilant) and HE-6 (etched), at least to my tastes. Really just nitpicking.

Splashy - makes the eardrum wet and soggy

Harsh/sibilant - scratches the eardrum

Etched - digs fancy designs into the eardrum

Hope this helps....

I knew someone could provide a point of context for splashy. Thank you.

Rolled a tube and just enjoying for now.

Extended cymbal decay of up to a few seconds is certainly wonderful.

Have you got any balanced options, Currawong? It'd be nice to know what balanced does to the sound

"Balanced" doesn't do anything. The connection is simply an external consequence of a amplifier topology choice. It only matters when chosen on an individual amplifier that has both types of circuit.

The Studio Six is more capable than my previous balanced amp anyway, so the question is seriously moot.

Huh. I always thought that the addition of separate grounds lowered noise with phase cancellation and whatnot.

Maybe I'm just out of date with my reading.

Yes, all of that, but you can make a balanced amp with two CMOYs even, but it wont suddenly become a high-end amp killer.  Best to ask about individual amps and synergy if anything IMO.

If I understand what you're saying, it is that a well designed single ended amp can sound better than a not as good balanced...but all things being equal (which they would be comparing the same amp in truly balanced versus single ended mode), you would them hear the benefits off balanced outputs. Correct?

heh funny. I was wondering if splashy also implied a "reverberant wet sound." Splashy to me doesn't sound like a negative characteristic, but more a smooth river flowing type treble? but I've never heard that word being used in an audiophile context, so would appreciate any insight from other members! :) thxs
