i'm still reading away and waiting for someone to justify it's use with Magni, at a weather that is Malaysia based, hot, humid, rain, cloudy, these are the only possible weathers around

i might find myself a demo unit in couple weeks, but then 3 days is a bit short to try :frowning2:

Be interesting to see your take on the 400i with your long HE-6 brain burn-in.

Yeah, I won't comment on the 400i yet. They are very good headphones obviously, but I need to listen extensively first...
I'll say that they're definitely more similar than different compared to the 560. The two are not really much different right now, honestly, so no comment for now, needs more time

Waiting for your impressions.

Thanks MLE,
Yeah, the differences are slowly coming up.
I'll post some when I feel comfortable about what I hear. This week definitely, but probably not today. My brain need to adjust a bit and the phones need some burnage.
I'll be focusing on my listening now.
[The SA31SE comes in handy now, easy to compare w/ 2 1/4 jacks].

I'll just say that they're very good and I like them but more detailed impressions will have to wait.
As far as easy to drive though, the 560 are at 60/100 on low +6db gain and 400i is at 55-56/60 on low +6db gain...
Either the 3DB efficiency difference is negligible or the 400i have higher impedance [my 560 have around 38ohms]... Unfortunately, my multimeter has gone bust so I can't measure... But it is either that or the other.

Great!

Can't wait to hear your comparison between the 400i and the 560

Yeah, good

. This will be a pretty tough comparison though.

I may have missed those post. Please let me know where they are. I have not owned the he500 for quite some time and have the 400i now.

this is the post I was thinking of  off the top of my head.. thread is so big I don't wanna look back more than a few days though :p  http://www.head-fi.org/t/698974/hifiman-he-400i-impressions-and-discussion/1305#post_10819956

That seems like one post opposed to many, if I recall correctly Jerg said his modded HE-500 is ever so slightly less refined than the HE-400i, and the bass on the 400i by general consensus is more resolute. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the 400i is the better deal, not just with comfort. :)

Wow! I'm so jealous

Don't be... It really won't be easy. But I'll do my best...
On the bright side, the 400i is being burnt in as we speak. I've managed to match them volume wise, the 400i reaches my listening level of lossless pink noise at 54/100, the 560 does at 60/100 [LG, SA31SE].
I'll be burning the 400i for a while at 60 so it is slightly louder than listening volume, or HE-560 listening volume [and it won't do the 560 any harm either].
I've also measured my regular listening level at around 65 - 75db max, but I question the accuracy.... Then again, I have good ears so maybe it is accurate.
The important thing is that they're finally more or less matched to a db.

[EDIT: some values removed due to possible error]

Does anyone know if the 400i has gone thru any revisions since the CES announcement?
