Good stuff. It is nice to see active development and communication regarding this app. It sounds so good...I always assumed Android was the main focus due to the software being on certain DAPs and such, so it is nice that iOS is being worked on and updated.

@Joe Bloggs any chance of Onedrive support for those of us trapped in the M$ ecosystem?

An beta build for Android will also come shortly and be available directly via Play Store's beta alpha program (hopefully)

And it's here: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.hiby.music :D

2.3.4 alpha build 3720 Changelog
1. Playlists are now generated in Playlist view from M3U files found during scanning;
2. Fixed error where certain tracks' album art couldn't be displayed or display in corrupted fashion;
3. Fixed issue where certain cue files are parsed without filtering out the whole-length sound file;
4. Improved ordering of songs in All Songs and Folders view and improved speed at which ordering is done (by sorting during scanning)

Things to test for:
- Whether media scanning works correctly and without crashes
- Smoothness of operation when loaded with large libraries
Looking forward to your feedback! :)

I installed it today on my Android (MI Max) and worked perfectly well. First impressions have been great. Sound quality is comparable to UAPP and sometimes better. But it's only a few hours I tested.

So here are some questions I have.
1/ at the first launch, I hear slight digital/ sampling distortion kina noise. Is that only me?
2/ with the SRC mode set to OFF , is that the bit perfect output or is there another knob to get bit perfect output?

Thanks

Hello rawkesh,

Thank you for choosing Hiby!

Regarding 1. Do you mean on launching the app, before playing any songs?
Regarding 2. Do you have any USB audio devices connected?

1. When I plugin in my DAC(Mojo) and play the first song. I hear it for first few seconds/mins.
2. I use Chord Mojo mainly and couple of other DACs.

2. I use Chord Mojo mainly and couple of other DACs.

Here's the things to look out for when attempting bitperfect playback with external USB DACs:

1. Turn SRC off (as you have done)
2. For DSD, scroll left (swipe finger on screen from left to right) several times to show the leftmost menu, tap Advanced->DSD mode and choose DoP or Native, whichever is supported by your device (usually DoP) to enable direct DSD output to your device.
3. For PCM, if you want to avoid digital volume scaling, tap Advanced->Volume mode, choose Software, turn volume to maximum.
* On some devices you can then turn Volume mode to Hardware and adjust the device's volume directly. On other devices you simply have to adjust the volume using the volume knob / buttons on the device itself.
* Sometimes digital volume scaling is preferable to hardware volume control. E.g. your device has analog knob for volume and your desired volume is very low on the knob's travel range, leading to difficulty fine-tuning the volume and/or channel imbalance. Often the signal-to-noise ratio is limited by downstream analog electronics rather than the digital output bit depth.

I have the Mojo connected to the smartphone at the moment and do not notice any interference noise unless the Mojo and/or headphones (sensitive ones) are placed near the smartphone and/or the length of USB cable near the smartphone. Is this the cause, or is the noise actually dependent on how long the Mojo has been playing from the smartphone as you say?

I no longer experience the noise/sound glitch. It was perhaps one of those Android things with multiple apps running and data not flowing through correctly. I will let you know if I experience it again.

Thank you for the details. I was switching between UAPP and Hiby and comparing the sounds between the two in bit perfect mode. I felt a slight perceptible difference. It maybe subjective to my hearing though. I don't know the intricate technical details but my nâive understanding is that bit perfect mode passes the bits "unprocessed" to the DAC. The player only decodes the format which should be a standard algorithm based on the format. So in theory, both the players should output same data to DAC. Is my understanding correct? If not, what is a better explanation.

@Joe Bloggs: any idea why hiby sorts folders by song title instead of the track number? i have a nas running minidlna, and all my other clients sort the folder contents the way it should be.

I would say that you are entirely correct and that any perceived difference can best be explained by an overactive imagination. Don't worry, everyone who's into audio falls prey to it at some point, me included. :D

Hello s4tch,

Sorry about that, we will fix the ordering on DLNA as soon as possible. On the other hand one of the selling features of Hiby is that you don't need to setup a DLNA server--it can extract, sort and play music from any shared folder. I guess we just need to defer to the DLNA server's ordering in the case of DLNA :)

Hello rawkesh,

Would you like to try our improved beta? It has improved library scanning and we're seriously considering to replace the current production version with it. :D
