According to the rep at HFM, they are actually phasing out the HE-400 and HE-500 after the new models are released, so I'm sure there will be crazy good deals on the old models once the new ones come out.

If that is the case i would be done with hifiman. they may not be making any more he-400 and he-500, but i will have both for sale for quite a while. a year or more, i think.

I've read that the HE-560 will be available by the end of this month for $899 and the HE-400i will be $499 and available mid to late April. Did they give you a date as to when the new arrivals will be shipped to you?

I was just unpacking the HD700 that came back to me, and could smell smoke as soon as I opened the box. This is the first demo where I have noticed this, and recently had a returned HE-400 that smelled like smoke
 
If you are going to do this please do not sign up for the demos.

Unbelievable. We need to report this as it happens people. First person that smells smoke reports it. Narrows down the offenders.

You're talking cigarette smoke or a burnt smell? Didn't have any of those odors when it hit me several weeks ago.

Cig smoke. Seems to be from the shipping box/bubble wrap (can always tell by the way the bubble wrap feels)

Received that LCD-X today. There appears (smells) to be no signs of smoke; They still have that new headphone smell
 
unfortunately for me.. while the earpads are amazing plush (like a cloud, in a great way), they are too plush to the point where my ears touch the drivers (I have a big head..). Audeze seems to have made them extra painful (imagine the outside grill but on the inside). It's okay though, ill just look at them and caress for 3 days then ship them out.

Received the XC today.  The headphones are in immaculate condition and no indication of smoke. The case has a couple drops of dried up sticky food sauce or something. 
 
These things are remarkably comfortable, and once again I was blown away by the in-person looks to them.  I thought I would absolutely hate the bubinga wood and black anodized rings, but they're very, very luxurious in person.
