HeadAmp CFA3 Headphone Amp - The Official Thread

Before laser engraving any more front panels or knobs, I wanted to present 2 possible options for the front panel/knob. Which style do you like best, or perhaps something else?

Differences include:
- markings around the front panel for the volume
- markings on the knob
- all caps vs first letter capitalized on Gilmore Current Mirror Headphone Amp
- Switch functions slightly smaller font in top version, but the names of the switches stays as the larger font (Top panel)

Note also that the top panel is black, the bottom panel is gray (in some light people always comment it looks purple and it's more common when taking photos). Right now we are only offering the black but other colors are going to come.
my vote:
Differences include:
- markings around the front panel for the volume - NO MARKINGS ON SKIRT
- markings on the knob - NO MARKINGS ON KNOB
- all caps vs first letter capitalized on Gilmore Current Mirror Headphone Amp - ALL CAPS
- Switch functions slightly smaller font in top version, but the names of the switches stays as the larger font (Top panel) - TOP PANEL EXAMPLE

My vote is:
- black color, more likely to match other equipment in the chain. Never liked how Riviera AIC-10 (for example) never matches anything.
- I like the dot marking around the volume knob (don't mind the other way though)
- white mark on the knob so you can see the volume level more clearly
- first letter only capitalized so it matches your HeadAmp signature on the left side.
- slightly smaller switch function labels
IMO

It's a little hard to see as-is (we could mark the middle of the indent with the laser, or also paint fill as we do on the Gilmore Lite knob)
If it's choose between the two, the line on the knob (top option).

My vote doesn’t count but if I were to vote it would be tiny LEDs around the volume knob that light up as you turn the volume. See COS engineering D1 for reference.

I vote for marks around volume knob.
Only first letter capitals.
Larger font for switches.
I want it to match my Blue Hawaii.

- markings around the front panel for the volume: Yes
- markings on the knob Yes with the White line
- all caps vs first letter capitalized on Gilmore Current Mirror Headphone Amp First letter capitalised
- Switch functions slightly smaller font in top version, but the names of the switches stays as the larger font (Top panel) slightly smaller

Black color is looks better.

Doesn’t look cheap on the Blue Hawaii. Of course those are a dash not a dot.
I promise I was not trying to create controversy :)

But I will try one with the dashes as a 3rd option and post it up.

Are there 47 marks to match the stepped attenuator?

I keep going back & forth, both look good. The smaller lettering of the model on top brings more attention to the size of the case, like Hegel does with their amps.

It's overall a classier and understated appeal to my eyes, while the bottom model in ALL CAPS means serious ****ing business.

The design side of me likes how the all caps is more consistent but it also makes the front panel appear more busy. Other ideas-

Simply imprint the letters into the front panel, or have the letter color match closer to color of the case. Maybe a shade of silver/gray to have it pop less, while having "Gilmore Current Mirror Headphone Amp" in bright white.

Can't do much of that with laser engraving, it basically either cuts through the anodizing and puts a white frosted appearance on the aluminum, or it doesn't go through the anodizing at all.

Here is an example with the hash marks
cfa3-hash-mark-idea.jpg
from the Blue Hawaii SE re-scaled for a larger 2" knob (they could be shrunk a bit which id probably do if this is used)
