Head-Direct EF-1

I'm tempted in getting the EF-1 because of it's smaller size. It makes it a great *transportable* tube amp. I love the idea of taking it outside the house. It looks easier to transport since it's just one little tube and small chassis. Plus I loved the sound too when I heard it.

I like my EF1 better than my old 336i, although the 336i rocked with HD600. But, it's not as transportable as I would like because of the one tube poking out the top and the large PSU. Still beats the 336i for throwing in your suitcase if you have somewhere safe to stash the tube (case for eyeglasses, etc). I elected to just bring the Predator and XM5 on vacation for 9 days, with some IEM and ESW10, so no need for a full size amp.

The EF-1 is sexy and every part of me is sad that I own a 336SE (HUEG) instead of it. Grats on your new purchase.

If you want a nice RCA-mini portable cable, send an email to Moon Audio, drubrew@earthlink.net. Drew made me a really sick cable, right angle Cardas RCAs to neutrik 1/8", blue dragon cable, 12". Insanely well made and portable, and wasn't too terribly expensive.

Been using my EF-1 for a few weeks now. I got my HD580's out of hybernation because I didn't have an amp before to drive them with. NOW I can here what I was missing all these years. This is my first amp so I don't have anything to compare it with but I am very pleased with it.

Either will do fine, but you might want the Caliente to warm up the ice-cold W5000's

Here's my dumb question about the EF-1:

I understand that it is powered by an 18v power supply. If somehow I lose it or it gets damaged, is it easy to replace? Any type of 18v power plug will do?

18v AC (not DC) with a standard kind of barrel plug on the end (not some weird DIN thing). Don't know the size off hand. It's about 3000 miles away right now.
