HD650 uses HD580 drivers??

They can't be the same because 650's can tolerate very loud sound without clipping. In other words they're more powerful. According to specs 580, 600's drivers 200mw power handling, 650's - 500mw.

A local sennheiser dealer was telling me that his rep says that fake Senns are a rampant problem. Were they purchased from a reputable authorized dealer? Regarding Senns, I wouldn't buy them any other way, having heard this claim of the prevalence of fake Senns many times now from independent, reasonably reliable sources. I guess it wouldn't be all that surprising.

No. These headphones are purchased from authorised Chinese dealers who obtained them from the Chinese distributor. Source is reliable.

Further survey shows that all the HD650s produced in 2007 are like those in the top picture, having HD580 mark on their drivers. Anyone who recently purchased HD650s please take off the pads and verify that the drivers have "HD580".

My HD580 drivers dont say HD580 either, just the manufaction date.

I have heard all three, and own all three, and there is NO way that the 600 and 650 share drivers. Night and day sound differences. None of my HDXXX series headphones have writing on the driver.

I have HD650 in front of me now as well HD580 on my head (listening to music)

First of all, they DON'T sound the same or even similar thus, they do NOT share the same drivers. There is NO marking on my HD650 drivers but there seems to be date stamped on the HD580 drivers. I have a dark silk baffle screen on my HD650 and white baffle screen on my HD580. I have owned 2 pairs of HD650 in the past and they all sounded same as the one I own now.

To OP, can you return yours for a "more genuine" HD650? If your source is legit, they should have no problem with exchange.

oh, my HD650 drivers have manufacture date on them

"13.03.2007"

but I don't think Senn made HD580 back in March anymore right?
so my HD650 don't have HD580 driver right?

So what does it mean if my HD580s (refurb) w/ HD600 grilles look exactly like the HD650 pic above?

No, HD650 has a titanium finish to them, and the grills are silver rather than the black on the HD600s.

The HD650 uses a driver unique to the HD580 and HD600.

Always buy from an Authorized Sennheiser dealer in your country. Sennheiser headphones will never ship from an Asian factory direct to the end-user.

Thanks for supporting our brand.

So by "unique to" you mean "different from," right?

Could Sennheiser reissue its statement, this time in . . . English?

Does the 650 use a unique driver?

Or does it use the unique 580/600 driver??

i believe the above is what sennheiser meant. although i agree that their choice of words certainly could have been better/clearer.
