Hi guys,
I thought I'd give my review on the MG7's. For months I'd been looking for an upgrade for my Klipsch S4's and having a couple of threads on head-fi I first went for the UE700's (at this point Navmau had recommended me the MG7's but I was unsure). The UE700 were completely bass-light and treble heavy, good separation, soundstage and fit but certainly not an upgrade from the S4's so they were sent back. Next up was the Klipsch X10 and this seemed like a no brainer, the model above the S4's surely would be an upgrade from the S4's, I was wrong. The fit was the best I've ever experienced but the sound was inferior on every aspect, maybe the treble was just slightly better but certainly not worth they high price they chare for those phones. Next was the UE TF10's. These were purchased due to their cheap price on amazon and I must say they were amazing. The bass wasn't as good as the S4's but everything else was brilliant. The mids crystal clear, the treble was sparkling, the separation weas superb and the soundstage was outstanding. In fact the treble, separation and soundstage is the best I've ever experienced. BUT the fit was awful. I mean I need phones for commuting and these are just not ideal. So they were also sent back.
At this time I had read a lot about the JVC's FXT90's and on my thread I was looking for an alternative to the TF10's, many had recommended these. The JVC's were very much like the UE700 but with a slightly better bass response. I've still got them and will be burning them in, hoping the highs will be tammed later on. Navmau had offered me a generously priced pair of MG7's and I thank him very much for this. Having used them for a couple of days now I can safely say that they have the best bass response I have ever heard. It is not over blown as some might assume when they hear 'basshead' earphones. It is a very realist and natural bass response. It's exactly how it should be! The Atrio's are great for bassheads but this shouldn't confuse people into thinking that they onlt have bass. The mids, treble, seperation and soundstage is fantastic, very similar to my S4's but I'm afraid not as good as the TF10, but I guess that's expected when comparing a single driver to a triple driver earphone. They actually sound neutral/natural and respond very well to EQing. After months of searching I've decided the MG7's are a worthy upgrade from the S4's, although currently the S4's sound slightly better (except for the bass) I fell like after burning them in they will open up very nicely. I will also keep the FXT90's because I seem them complementing the the MG7's as a more treble heavy earphone. In a perfect world I would have the fit and bass of the Atrio's with the mids, treble, sparation and soundstage of the TF10's but having said that the Atrio's are not too far behind in these aspects, hence why I'm keeping them and sending the TF10's back!
The Atrio's are a fantastic pait of IEM's and I highly recommend them to everybody. Just give them a try and you won't regret it.
Special thanks to Navmau for all his help and advice!
