I got started into the headphone game with the AT AD-700, and then quickly upgraded to a 598 HD, followed by a pair of K702's, which remain with my setup along with the new D7000. For amplification, i'm currently using a Hifiman EF2A, which I swapped american tubes into. 
 
The D7000's sound fantastic. I've never listened to, much less owned, cans of this quality. I don't characterize myself as a bass head, but the deep, punchy low end sure feels like an improvement over my 702s. The 702s are very clean and analytical and have an airy soundstage, but I find the D7000's so far to be much more pleasing to listen to (as well as more comfortable!) 
 
Is my amp a decent match for these two pairs of headphones? Would a more expensive headphone amp push these headphones significantly further, or would it be a case of diminishing returns? And if I were to invest in another amp, are there any which would be well suited to both headphones?

I have the same amp and it works well for my D7000, Q 701 and Senn HD 600.  It should be a good match for all your cans.

Consider the Shure SRH 840 & 940 and the Ultrasone HiFi 780 & Pro 750 (for a brighter sound).

The CAL! delivers $100 sound, but I got mine for $50 something not long ago and they were very recently regularly at $70 something from Amazon.  I would wait for a while for the current $100 price to come back down.

What does an amp do? Does it just make the audio go louder? Something that I have been wondering. And also would a Hifiman HE300 be better than the Beyer DT990 Premium?

An amp can add volume, increase frequency response, better sound (e.g. deeper and tighter bass), improve clarity and open the sound stage.

So is it worth it to get the 250 ohms version of the beyer dt990 for $50 more or is the 32 ohms fine? And is the hifiman he300 better or no?

At this moment, I am amp and headphone-less. I pretty much sold my T1, D7000, AD2000, and my Nuforce Icon HDP to fund for Burson 160-DS, HD800, and LCD-2 Rev 2 With Q Audio Cables.
 
I think I will get the black dragon v2 cable for the HD800, but I am now currently without a good closed headphone. Recommend me some closed headphones which are around the 500-1000 dollar price range.

I work in a fairly quiet office and sit close to several coworkers. I need a headphone that meets the following requirements:
 
- low sound leakage
- doesn't require amp
- sounds fine with laptop or phone as source
- comfortable for extended periods
- mostly listen to electronica, rock, and sometimes rap
- under $200

With regard to the Beyers--it depends mostly on what your downline equipment and source is.  With an unamped computer or portable device, the 32 Ohms version makes the most sense.  That said there is generally going to be better performance going to the 250 Ohm version, which I believe is reflected in the reviews that has compared the two.

Shure SRH 840, although an inexpensive amp/dac might make it even better.
 
The Ultrasone HiFi 780 would work, except it may not be comfortable enough--especially if you wear glasses.

Audio Technica ATH-A700s! Super comfy, decent sound, as long as you can deal with some bass. Closed design, so little leakage. They run fine without an amp, but will likely be improved with one. I think they're around 125 on amazon.

I may just go that route. I can't exactly wait for the CALs to go down in price seeing as I have 2 weeks till her birthday. Another person suggested the Ultrasone HFI-450s; anyone have an opinion on which of the two is the better value? ZX700s are $75, cheapest I found the HFI450s were for $100. Thanks for the help!
