I am thinking about sellin my X3 and buying X1.
I'm using Takstar Pro 80 indoor and aJays One on the walk.
Will X1 drive Pro 80 ?
what about EQ?
Is it so huge sound quality downgrade?

(don't care about DAC)

Thanks in advance.

I was able to try out a FiiO X1 a few months back, I liked it.
But why sell the X3?

I don't know about your headphones, but I don't think that an X1 is a downgrade to the X3 in sound quality. In my opinion the X3 just adds more connectivity to the basis of the X1.
As for the real power of the X1, I'd also be interested to know, if the player does have as much power to drive headphones as the X3.
Why not keeping the X3 too?
I am very happy with my X3, but I'm also thinking of getting an additional X1 as there is need for a second mobile audio player in our household.

Just got my X1. It's downgrade in SQ to X3. But I will use it as my outdoor DAP, so all I need is battery life and portable size.
With aJays One sound is very nice. Soundstage seems to be poor, but it's much joy to listen to this setup.

Overall great player!

Thank you for your response. I'd be interested to know in which way and to what extent the X1 is a sonic downgrade to the X3. As I am thinking of getting a X1 as a second unit, I'd be a bit disappointed to see the X1 being downgraded in sq so much, just to be able to sell it at a cheaper price,

Guys, I'm also choosing between X3 and X1.

Main thing for me is sound quality. At home I am using BeyerDynamic DT990 (on external Creative X-Fi HD), and with my phone (which is gonna be replaced by fiio for work/outdoors) I am using Shure SE215 & Creative Aurvana In-Ear 3, probably might get something better in future.

Has anybody compared X1 and X3 with decent headphones ($150+)? Is there a noticable difference in sound quality?

I too am deciding between the X1 and X3. I would love to get a more detailed comparison of their sound quality. As for features, what would I be missing out on if I got the X1?

Thanks in advance!

Comparing the X1 and x3 is highly subjective. The x3 has slightly more power and the wolfson sound. If you never heard the x3 you would probably be happy with the X1. It is great all by itself. The x3 has a very slight audio edge. And a dedicated line out and a DAC which works with a pc but not phones. The X1 is smaller and a bit tougher with a better interface. And I bet firmware updates will be far more frequent on the volume machine which is the X1. The x1 is my exercise unit. The x3 is my listening unit.

Thank you for the reply, originalsnuffy.

I have also found this review with detailed comparisons: http://www.head-fi.org/products/fiio-x1-ultraportable-hi-res-dap/reviews/11806

I was thinking about ordering X3 just to decrease the chance that I will not like the sound, then I decided to maybe try both at B&H store (http://www.bhphotovideo.com) before buying, so I opened their site and there is a sale on X3! $130 instead of $170, so I quickly ordered one :) The sale ends on December the 5th, so if you want to order X3 - hurry :)

I think the $130 for an X3 is a very good deal. As that review you shared pointed out, the X3 does have much more amplification power available to it and a few other nice features. I can't comment on the subjective analysis, because it is after all, subjective. I think both units are very good, it is just that for me I give the X3 a slight edge on sound quality but mileage is sure to vary.

I have never ventured into a DAP world, only used my Samsung Galaxy S5 and other mobiles for my music but desparate to try and improve any quality I can. I listen to audio on the go and at home so I can't decide X3 or X1. I have a sennheiser IE80, is the X1 going to work okay with these? At home I have a fairly old creative soundworks thnx system which i'd like my DAP to also be used for.

Here in the UK the X1 is about $140 and the X3 is $250 so it's close to double in price. Is it worth 2x the cost?

So is the x3 really worth £70 more?
