Several I would list have already been mentioned: Joni Mitchell and Imogen Heap, Diana Krall, Alison Krauss.

I didn't see Regina Spektor yet. (Sorry if I missed it.) I find her music to be relatively poorly recorded, but I like the her music and her voice.

St. Vincent.

Was Billie Holiday mentioned yet?

Oh damn, I forgot Utada Hikaru. The rare times you get to hear with live instruments are memorable.

Karen Carpenter [no mention yet? how can that be??]

Jane Getz [a jazz musician, her vocals are less well known, and an acquired taste as well]

Sanna Kurki-Suonio [from Finland - amazing!]

Lavra Daviz Mustapha [of 3 Mustaphas 3 - there are ten of them in all, by my count, including the little-known Brak Mustapha]

Kate & Anna McGarrigle [lest we forget]

Jacqui McShee [of Pentangle, if I had to listen on ONE voice for the rest of my life...]

Sonja Kristina [of Curved Air, the queen of British progressive rock]
