Hey all,

I connecting my PC to the emu 0404 via a usb cable. I am running optical out to my Yamaha receiver. This approach porduced no sound. However, I do get sound out of the headphone amp on the emu 0404.

Prior to getting the emu 0404 I was taking the same approach using an Audigy NX external soundcard. Why will the emu not work the same way? Any ideas?

H... are you using AES/EBU format instead of S/PDIF which is the common one in receivers?

Have you also selected between coaxial and optical and set the sync source correctly?

Also, you could try through various software ... and remember select the S/PDIF output there in software too.

In the Direct Monitor section, you need to switch from Main to S/PDIF.

Thanks for the info guys. I am using Foobar2000 v0.9.4.2. I went to preferences and selected the emu 0404 for the output device. I also tried all combinations for the sync status and S/PDIF and AES output. I still get no sound.

The only way to get a digital output from an 0404 USB is to be using it via ASIO with a player app that provides an ASIO control panel in which you can shift the output channels. That's been well documented in past threads.

Thanks foreverzer0, it took me a while but I finally figured that out. I had to download the ASIO .dll file as well.

Sejarzo lending me a ton of help.

yes, for some reason you can only output through SPDIF if you use ASIO

is there no way around this??? I've decided to use my 0404 USB full time as a transport and can't watch youtube videos or anything without ASIO if using the SPDIF out!?!?!
