I agree with this observation except I would merge tier 2 and 3 together:

Same to me. I prefer my X3 over AK100

Is the soundstage of DX90 wider than DX50?

It is different. There is excellent placement of voices and instruments and layering with the DX90 that catches your attention and then you just enjoy it. It has great right, left and central placement. The Dx50 doesn't have quite the imaging. There is also a transparency to the DX90 that takes it up a notch. I find them both musical, which to me, is rendering the recording as an event rather than just mechanically giving you the notes.

The 901 is very good and has great placement of instruments and a quality sound. The DX100 has beautiful air about it. They are all musical. They are all different just like venues are different. The DX90 has a quality that is quality and enjoy how it portrays the music as music.

I understand what you're saying, the imaging is forming a vivid perception of each sample/instrument. But when you compare DX50 and DX90 side by side do the left/right channels have more width with DX90? Better spread across the stage, Is it more spacious, airy presentation?

I guess it's similar to Re600 and Re400. With Re400 u can feel it more airy and bigger soundstage, but the imaging in Re600 is so far away from Re400 and i think it really better than Re400

I owned the AK120 anr found it not to my taste. The X5 sounds better to me. Some will disagree, others agree...most who disagree own the AK120...

Gotta admit I miss talking/discussing with you. I am still on the fence too honestly but first impressions are awesome. I trust Jamato so it seems like an awesome value, just like X5. I will probably wait and see more then decide. On the other hand I don't want to make a rush purchase.

I had X5 and DX50 and kept the DX50, mind you that could be down to timing.
I got the Ibasso at 1.2.8 and the Fiio at 1.01, but as they stood I just preferred the sound of the DX50.
It will be interesting to see how the X5 develops.
