Differences in AKG 7xx family
Nov 28, 2014 at 8:36 AM Post #17 of 23
I sold my early K701 looking to upgrade to K702 65th Anniversary Edition or K712 pro, and now I have them both. I was looking for a bit (just a little bit) more bass for mixing and "mastering" purposes (I listen music with them at home too).

I found both the K712 pro and the K702/65th to have an improve bass response over the K701, however in a different way. I think the K712 have a little more bass volume than the K702/65th, but the K702/65th deliver a more deep and defined bass, Although differences between them are really subtle.

In the long run I have found the K712 pro and the K702 65th Anniversary Edition to be an improvement over the K701. I think this last two models of the K7 series are more natural-balanced and refined.

I also found the K702/65th to feel a little bit airy and brighter (without being harsh) when comparing them to the K712, that would be because of the added bass of the K712 I believe... Anyway, both headphones are slightly less bright than the K701.

AKG 712 pro is made in Austria, 100%, and they wrote it on the headphone...I think, looking at 7XX cost, that it is made in PRC....otherwise they would have been very proud to state on that  headphone "made in Austria" as well....but does it realy matter...if the sound is good...who's care about.
I own the 712, and will be happy when i will get the 7XX

Why would you downgrade from the 712pro to the 7xx?

Why should somebody always"upgrade"..it's my choice, and i do not think the 7xx is such a "downgrade" ....and it cost me 1/2 the 712 price....
I , like many peoples,  have MANY headphones and love to buy and compare...if the 7xx is not satisfying for me , it will be re-sold to French peoples that missed the massdrop deal....at its exact costing price including shipping (215$)

That's all.
