I own both the D2000 and the 7000 - both fully Lawton modded and with custom wood cups - and the sound is close enough to equal for me. The LA7000 is a bit stronger in the bass primarily due to the cups I have on there (Teak from SE Asia) are deeper than stock and the bass is glorious but I listen to the 2000's a LOT.

My memory of the D2k I had years ago was just mushy bass and mids, and very little treble. That Lawton mod must be something to get it to ~ equal the D7k! I would consider my D7k very near to my personal preference. May have to try the TH900 someday, but from what I gather it may not be an upgrade, but a bit of a side grade.

I found the Lawton mods to solve any shortcomings the entire D-X000 line had - having now owned 2 D2000's, 2 D5000's and the D7000, had them all stock to begin with before having Mark work his magic.

Regarding the TH900 - had that headphone stock as well, had Mark do his thing, and again found the mods to be worth the effort. To me *(YMMV) the LA7000 I have was the equal to or better than the TH900, probably for two reasons - sentimental attachment to the D7000 (was my first "really good headphone") and the extra deep cups give it the deeper/stronger bass that I crave.

I'm 58 years young so I certainly don't have golden ears like some young'uns - but the difference between the modded MD2000 and the LA7000 was so slight that it was a push for me. Keeping them both - the MD2000 is kept in my work office (running off a Fisher CA-8800 amp) and the LA7000 gets in the rotation with my Pioneer SE Master 1 and HFM HE-6SE on my flagship system (Pioneer Spec 1 preamp/Spec 2 amp) rack system. All the early Denon's (build by Foster) are among my favorite sound signatures, including the D5000's I had at one time.

Hello. I was wondering if somebody could point me towards a source of ah-d7000 replacement drivers? Mine are working fine but I need to ensure I have this sound for life by making sure I can fix them if I have problems. Thanks!

Just got loaned D7000 for few days. Oh man, released at 13 years ago, but the sound could be considered as strong contender even in today's standard.

Yes, they pronounce mid bass, but in such good way that make musicality so strong, combine with great clarity at upper mid to treble area and spacious soundstage. Not to mention it's so comfortable to use as well.

The LA7000 I have is still my most prized headphone..................7 years owning it and use it in regular rotation. Great job Denon, then taken to the next level with Mark Lawton mods, Q French Silk cable, extra deep Teak cups. Love this headphone and will likely keep it forever.................

Don't think any are available but the Fostex TH900 driver, from my experience, is, if not the same, close enough for hand grenades as the saying goes. I owned my LA7000 and a Lawton modded TH900 at the same time and could not tell much if any difference..................

Lawton angled sheepskins are my first choice - have them on my LA7000 and MD2000. Second choice is Dan Clark Audio Alpha Pads - sheepskin as well and buttery soft.

hello, my phones needs a new pair of pads. Suggestions please. Thanks
I haven't tried lawton but I've been through a few ebay "stock" replacement pads and some dekoni pads. The dekoni elite hybrid th900 pads are the best imo and the dekoni sheepskin th900 pads are #2.
