Hi

Just run it. And listen to music. Not an issue to run it for week or so.

> 2) On the iphono you can select the enchanced riaa curve. I believe it is

Sorry, no just the RIAA. The manual has the recommended curves via the tone controls.

> 3) is the setting of the bias of the different tubes done automatically?
> Or needs this to be done manually.

Self bias, no adjustment needed or possible.

Cheers

Haha, hey Jmarois, you guessed twice.  What's your final answer?

Can I have an answer to my questions too? On page 3

Thanks for the answers! The unit has been running for 10 hours now...all things postive, like what I hear

Hi

Sorry we missed it but please see below.

Cheers.

> 1. Why didn't you add a balanced connection?

Because in general terms - unless compatibility with Pro-Audio systems is required or long cables (100's of meters) need driving, balanced connections offer no objective or subjective benefit.

Generally speaking adding balanced connections onto a fundamentally single ended signal path means the balanced inputs require additional circuitry and ususally perform worse than the straight SE signal path.

> 2. What is the power/impedance rating for headphones

16 Ohm.

> and what is the Class A bias for that?

As the tube power amplifier is used and it is set up for around halve power in Class A into 4Ohm, the headphone outputs always run in Class A.

> 3. What is the difference between Burr-Brown type Native DSD and Sabre32 DSD?

One (BB) supports PCM and DSD playback without digital domain manipulation, asynchronous sample rate conversion etc. and supports DS512 and 768kHz PCM.

The other one is somewhat lacking in comparison. We prefer to leave it at that.

> 25Wpc sounds fairly powerful, since it's a tube amp,

the 25W is Music Power rating, meaning it is equal to a 25W solid state Amplifier when driven into real speakers using music.

> there will be high gain,

As there is only one gainstage in addition to the actual output stage, gain is normal, not much different of a medium power British style "integrated" amplifier, which is basically a higher gain power stage and a passive preamplifier in one box.

> and 25Wpc should be enough to drive some pretty hard to drive speakers,
> but I doubt it will work with Planars for example...

It depends on the planars.

We recommend 90dB/2.83V or higher sensitivity Speakers (like the LS3.5 we supply in the system). There are some fairly high sensitivity Planars, but there are also some that are in the mid 70dB/2.83V range when normalised.

The Retro Stereop 50 is optimised to drive modern low impedance/highish sensitivity Speakers.

For example (ignoring the cost differences etc.), it will do a good job of driving Wilson Alexandria's (93dB/2.83V, 4Ohm impedance) even in larger rooms.

It is less ideal (say) for original 16 Ohm BBC LS3/5 (82dB/2.83V, 16 Ohm impedance).

Cheers.
