Theyre semi open. The l1 isolates a little more than the DT880 and m80. Really good isolation for open headphones, bad (somewhat) for closed headphones.

So then they're not portable headphones....semi open like the DT880 or T1s (I've owned both) are like semi-pregnant. Doesn't make much sense. They are either open or closed IMO. So I guess for the purposes of this thread, I won't consider them. Sorry to the L2 fans out there.

  I've actually already decided on the H6, it's going back. Packing it back up. A very shortlived experience, but it's just way too uncomfortable for my ears. They actually hurt now and I've been listening to them for less than an hour. Oh well, crap happens.

Anything open (including semi-open) won't be part of my discussion here with "portable headphones". Sorry...the T1s were better than the DT880s, in that regard, but I'd hate to take them into a noisy environment or sit next to someone on the subway with them on.

Thanks, I was actually looking into these, or the Z1000. Which one in your opinion would be better? The Z1000 is still sold here in the Netherlands, eventhough it's officially discontinued.
 
I also ordered the Focal Spirit Classic, it's just been released here this week, will hopefully arrive Saturday Retail price here is € 299 for those.

Do you mean the MDR-7506? And it's supposed to be a lot better than the 7520 from what I've been reading. Might give them a listen somewhere soon.

Yes, the 7520 is a lot better than the 7506. IMO, its also a lot better than the Momentum, MDR-1R, M-100, K550, especially if you like a studio monitor, flat type of sound.

I use the Momentum before and love it, however, i am also in love with mdr-7506 but unfortunately its doscontinued, Now i am using HD600 as my current reference headphone at home, would sony mdr-7520 be a good buy for portable reference? I will use it on the train and bus if its better than P7 B&W

Absolutely!! For me, this is the reference $300-350 portable headphone, even though Sony didn't design or market it as such. I just added a $10 shorter cable from Amazon as it only comes with a longer coiled cable.

Damn, I was always interested in the MDR-7520, but at the time I was researching on it, there were very little reviews. I currently am using the MDR-1R as my go-to headphones for portability, but I find it to be lacking in many areas. The treble isn't as detailed as I want it to be, the mids also lack resolution and the bass is too mid-bass centric and quite rolled off.

I think mdr-7520 is going to be a low profile great headphone that come to challenge the rival sennheiser and B&w but no this sony is in different league, reference class. Not forgetting Sony Mdr-7506 was Jude's first pair of headphone,without it he won't be here , haha...
