Hi all, my friend is looking for his first pair of high end headphones.

The most important thing he wants is comfort and he thinks my Denon AH-D2000 are very comfortable (I agree

)

Second most important thing is he wants something thats really clear, he felt my D2000's were a little bit on the bass heavy side (plugged in to Ibasso D2).

Time spent 60% gaming %40 music.

Budget: He'd like to spend about $100 but $150 is absolute max.

Prefer open cans but it really doesn't make much of a difference.

Location: NYC So we can go to shops like Audiocube and other shops to try on suggested headphones.

Thanks!

The Audio Technica AD700 would be a great choice. Very comfortable and great for gaming and all types of music. They are not too bassy either

Sennheiser HD280s are great for gaming. I would also recommend the Sony MDR7506 (or their cheaper cousin, the V6). The 7506s don't seem to have as good a soundstage as the 280s though, which makes a fairly good difference when gaming.

Comfort between these cans is a tough one. The 280s really clamp down, and can be tight, whereas the 7506/V6 has a very loose, but very comfortable fit. I can wear the 7506s for longer than the 280s.

The AD700 is right on the money and it doesn't need an amp to sound good. I'd like to suggest the Alessandro MS1 too but I won't since it lacks the infinite soundstage gamers crave.
