Lucky for you the HE-400 is not picky at all with amps. You should come into the HE-400 thread, people would be more than happy to help. Some off the top of my head that are reported to sound great with the HE-400 include:
 
-Schiit mini stack (Modi/Magni)
-Schiit Lyr
-Schiit Asgard
-Matrix M-stage
-Little Dot MKIII
-Fiio E17
-O2
 
And none of those (with exception to the Lyr) will burn a hole in your wallet.

I was thinking about E17 already long time ... its easy to get in cz and I like the options to add bass and treble. With E11 add bass thing works nice. Only thing I hate is that I have to recharge it first and on high power mode it runs only about 2.5hour. I'am not sure now if E17 can be charged while using.
 
I'll certainly join HE-400 thread when I get them, hope it will be next week .. I'am so excited

I like the HE-400 for every other genre the SR225i lacks in. They are good for hip-hop, soul, classical, jazz, electro and pretty much everything you throw at it. The HE-400 sounds a lot more full than the SR225i. Unfortunately, I don't like the HE-400 enough because my original intention was the HE-500 at first but got sidetracked with the HE-400.

Thanks for that. All things considered, do you recommend the 500 over the 400 to relative newcomers, ahem.....that would be me

Uhh... Depends... I would easily recommend the HE-400 to newcomers because it's a fantastic starting can ($400~ is starting hahaha). Considering how the HE-500 is almost double the price of the HE-400, I can't wholeheartedly recommend the 500 over the 400 only due to the price difference. I just love the mids and treble of the HE-500. I'm an avid jazz listener so to me the HE-500 is worth the whole world to me. But with that said, the HE-400 does so many things correctly for under $500 that I can't recommend them enough. If you can audition them, I strongly suggest that you do, but if you were to choose one, save your money and try the HE-400 first.
