Best budget amp under 150 USD

People with inferior gear tend to preach EQ and Plug-ins.

(...) I will go and listen to my 650/ Fosgate Signature without the degradation of Sound caused by equalizers or plug-ins.

Have you tried (DMG) Equilibrium or Equality?
Both are very good in my book.

I wonder which is inferior:

  1. Something with high distortion or something with inaudibly low distortion.
  2. Something with a colored frequency response or something with a neutral frequency response.

I'm out. Hope you find a good amp, @seanwee!

It's nice to not have to "wonder" and actually pick which amp I would like to listen to on a given day. For that, I consider myself lucky.

I would never comment on a product I didn't own or formerly own at one point.

I'm sure they are, but nothing is going to replicate a good tube amp exactly.

That might be true for practical purposes.
But it is also like saying that nothing is going to replicate the sound of the Sennheiser HD419 (Shure SRH1840 or whatever) exactly.
If you happen to enjoy that sound over everything else, that's fine for me.

That kinda hurts.

IMO it is possible to replicate a good tube amp exactly but it would be extremely difficult and time consuming.

I found the equalizer setting that emulates a good tube amp without degrading sound with my HD800/650 !!! I was wrong, I admit it.

:D

Worst of all , there is a humming sound whenever i plug in my ear/headphones that can only be silenced by touching the metal body of the already extremely hot amp.

This problem was solved by cleaning the pins of the vacuum tube and the PCB with a slightly damp cloth.

Heat problem was also slightly reduced by using High quality thermal paste (leftover from building a desktop) on the heatsinks.

Thanks for all the help guys.
