That's a rather broad band of frequencies. I think its not exactly resonance, but the sound seems to be off, am I correct? Male singing tends to sound female, and mature voices tend to sound young. Also I seem to hear some odd squeakiness in brass instruments compared to my UERMs.

The W5000s are rather bright, but it doesn't have sibilance. I think this is what also partially resulted in nasally tones. ATH seemed to have boosted this area a great lot. But this also made some young female vocals sound like they're plucked from the music, and singing floating in front of you, right at your face (not sure if you get this imagery ><)

its at various frequencies within this region.  there are odd resonance throughout the midrange.

Ah yes, I can hear it. Sounds like the singer is about to shout out something on the high notes. But this only occurs on the high notes, and the songs I listen to tends to falsetto those notes, so this effect is not very noticeable for me (luckily..). This is more apparent on songs with up front vocals it seems. Perhaps the difference in songs we listen to is the cause of our listening differences.

Hey, David, do you think the HD650 was a good choice of headphone to complement my DT880? Or would you have recommended a different headphone? Like the K702 Annie or HD600?

I would have gone with something a bit more colored. I think that the DT 880 and HD 650 are both designed to be all-rounders that are somewhat neutral and laid back, but Grados and Audio Technicas can outdo them for specific types of music.

I think the DT880 are great for bringing out details and great for a more analytical sound without sounding dry. The 650's provide a more euphoric laidback approach. So in that respect they are a good pairing. Both headphones are quite balanced. I would use the 650's for jazz and dynamic music, and use the 880's for really good recordings and stuff were you want to hear every nuance. The K702/1's that I have owned are a different beast and you would either love or hate them. I personally love them, but most peeps either like the 650 or AKG's but not both.

HD650s should complement DT880s. I have DT880s and LCD-2s (which have tonal blance similar to HD650s) and like both (DT880s for classical and LCD-2s for other genres).
Denon D2000s may work as well.
AKG K//Q/701/2s may not sound that different from DT880s.
Grados or Audio Technicas in that price range may sound too color for some people (I did not like them, although you might).

Yeah its hard to be critical of any the past flagships. All 3 are brilliant.

I love Grado's and that will most likely be my next headphone. I was looking for something more relaxing for late night listening, and thought the HD650 would be great when I'm tired and just want to enjoy the music

Already ordered and those would've been out of my budget. I'll probably get a PS500 or a Magnum(or RS1i), not sure which yet.
