Audio-gd R2R 11

I reckon if you want to improve the R2R 11, then it makes more sense to buy a better model instead. Often, by the time you've bought and experimented with a bunch of tweaks, you've spent as much as the next model up, or more, anyway.

If the I2S card fits, it is a reasonably cheap way to bypass a lot of circuitry (given a suitable source).

Next one up from Audio-gd would cost 5x the R2R 11 (ladder DAC-hphone amp-preamp)

And AFAIK I2S input is optional...

If you refer to the NOS 11, the I2S input is free if you forsake the USB input, otherwise it's $20, not that much, especially considering the price of the NOS 11

If the card fits, we are talking about a similar deal for the R2R-11.

Definitely worth a try.

Will need to make a custom RJ45 interconnect though (Shinrico and Audio-gd use different pin assignments :triportsad:).

Yeah, that's a nuisance... but still worth trying. Keep us posted on the outcome, if you decide to go for it

Just got this thing today, and I'm not digging the sound. How long the burn-in period should I expect before this DAC/amp can sound at its best?

Usually I leave Audio-gd gear on for 2 weeks (250 hours) and that does it nicely.

Will you keep it on (for R2R dac) after the burn in period? Holo spring dac has standby mode that would help my electric bill but not sure how it works with R2R 11.

I don't know about the small components, but the big ones tend to sound their best after they've been left on for a few hours in my experience.

My suggestion would be to take some time to readjust before judging the sound too much :)

Yeah I guess that's what I should do. I wonder why Audio-gd gears need so much time to breaking-in, especially R2R related gears (I'm looking at you R2R-7). I saw somewhere that the Soekris R2R damXXXX series need no breaking-in time at all to sound good. Based on my experience, it was the case with Chord Mojo too.

Generally speaking, lots of discrete components = lots of breaking-in time.

Mine needed about 100 hours (actually driving headphones, not just turned on) to lose the loose, boomy bass and open up.

I generally find it needs about 2 hours warming up before use.
