I think any Headphone chassis that 'contributes' to sound is bad design.

Those wooden cups often found on modded Hp's and high end japanese designs do give as sense of 'value' and pride of ownership. Looks pretty.

I don't think so ==

Well, both points actually.
Wood-cups look ugly to me, yup. And I do think housing design and material used definitely affect the perceived sound, wave reflections happen inside the housing and I don't think its too hard to imagine that the housing is going to affect it.

I went into some detail about the nature and affect of standing waves in a previous post.

Short of having no housing (cups) the aim should be to give a good driver the best possible chance to perform as intended. Cup vibrations of any kind have no place in helping that, quite the opposite.

I am not sure we actually disagree with each other. Yes headphone housings can contribute to sound but I wouldn't say it a desirable trait.

^^^ hmm I used to think the whole thing (driver unit, diaphragm, housing etc) as a complete design rather than the driver alone..

I am still waiting for my LCD-2 and they don't know when they can ship it to me.  It is rumored that Audez'e may introduce a new product.  Do you think it would be better to cancel the order and wait for the new product?  Or is the current LCD-2 is so good that I don't need to wait for the new one?

The new Audeze headphone model will be announced at CanJam which is this Friday through Sunday.  So wait a few days and follow the CanJam threads to see what's up.  There will probably be some discussion and speculation in the Summit-Fi section about whatever Audeze announces.  I wouldn't assume that the new model would replace the LCD2.  More likely would be a model in addition to the LCD2.  We'll just have to wait and see.

Audeze also has a speaker that they're debuting at RMAF/CanJam as well.  They've been busy.  Which is likely why the LCD2 stocks are low.

Audeze is trying their best to murder my wallet.  I don't want to have to sell all three of my home-listening headphones just to get their new flagship.  Hopefully it's not more expensive than the other flagship models.

The LCD-3, Reality 1 and Spitfire are going to be demoed at RMAF.  Just when I thought I could be satisfied with my headphone collection, I'm tempted to sell my home-listening cans and get the LCD-3.

Yes.  It's got a lighter wood, and the xlr connectors go in at an angle.  They have pics up on their Facebook.

My LCD-2 has wood that light and connectors at an angle.  That's not the news.  It's the drivers that are new, from what I understand.  But I will see them in person tomorrow at RMAF.

  I'm just going off what I saw on their wall photos.  I might consider scrounging up the cash if you give the cans your blessing.
