ATTICUS and EIKON, the new dynamic driver headphones from ZMF

I'm astounded to see this post. I've read this entire thread, and I believe you're the 1st one to mention this.

My very generous Head-Fi pal, @jinxy245, loaned me his Eikon overnight a couple months back (a trusting fellow--I was sorely tempted to leave the state clutching those headphones). Anyway, I was wailing away with the Eikon that night around 10PM in my dimly lit office, when suddenly I saw what looked like someone reaching around my right ear from behind me. It scared the living crap out of me...I quickly figured out I was seeing the front edge of rt earcup in my peripheral vision.

We all make sacrifices for our audio hobby. If I have to down a xanax smoothie to get though a listening session with the Eikon--so be it!

PS: seriously, in all fairness to these amazing headphones and their talented designer, this "see the headphone" phenomenon is almost certainly anatomy-dependent. Clearly a lot of people just don't experience this, or if they do, aren't mentioning it. Sure, the Eikon is on the large side, but so are many other designs. I have a rather large head, and that's probably what caused it...

What's funny is I only ever see the right side which means my head is misshapen or I'm not wearing them correctly.

uhh, pretty much everyone's head is mishapen...

my guess is the dominant eye (for me, the rt) has slightly greater degree of peripheral vision.

Hey guys, we just sent a good amount of stock of Camphor and a few padauk sets to Zeppelin and Co in Singapore. This is by far the fastest way to get a ZMF Eikon/Atticus in Asia. They will also have the Auteur (our new open biocel HP) starting late next month for demo and pre-order. Here's a cool pic they took of the Camphor wood, they wanted me to pass along that the cactus is not included, but I think you could talk them into it. :)

@zach915m I know this is the Atticus & Eikon thread, but any news about the ZMF Auteur???

We're all itching!

Next week a lot of info will be released. Sorry I don't want to say too much until the last few details are finalized. Many pics, pricing and release info then. Only thing I do want to mention, is that we are way ahead of where we were last year with the Eikon/Atticus release so wait times after pre-order will be much less.

I hope the preorders, whenever they appear, will extend past RMAF. I'd love to hear them before I jump :D

That's all I need to know... I already saw some unofficial(?) pics on the interwebs...I'm already drooling/curious.

Thanks for the update!

Is it just me, or has ZMF Headphones (the company) gone from "very interesting" to "INSANELY interesting" in the last year or so?

...this from an extremely happy Ori owner who chronically obsesses over the Atticus (my next purchase, very likely)--also heard & was blown away by the Eikon...

You mean there's something better than Eikon and Atticus? That's not possible. A & E are sounding so good now out of Yggy and Rggy or Euforia. It's sounding better than my LCD-2f now - according to my ears. So no offence to those who love their LCD-2f. Remember I once was raving about the LCD-2f too. :)

I have just purchased a PrimaLuna Dialogue Premium HP Integrated Amplifier which is a superb stereo tube integrated amp as well as a headphone amp. It uses 12au7 (6) and eight of either EL34, KT88, KT120, KT150. I'm getting it this weekend. I'm looking forward to hear how A & E sound through this 30kgs amp. I bought it to drive my speakers primarily but since Stereophile review says it's superb with headphones, I'm keen to road test it.

Zach, some photos of your upcoming OCC headphone cables would be good. Thanks.

You could either buy from us or I'm sure Kristy might be able to ship to you in Europe as well. I am not sure if Kristy (the shop owner) would want me posting her email here, but you can message through their facebook: https://www.facebook.com/zeppelinandco/

Oh, yes RMAF attendees will be able to preorder at the event like last year, and we will be opening pre-order in November on our website. Even though we are almost ready for pre-order, I'd rather push it later so that there's less time between the order and delivery of the headphones.

Yep!!! The braiding machine @BooUrns (my wife) will be making a number of them in the next few days and we'll be soldering away at them. It took us a while to get the perfect durometer of TPE for the sleeving but I'm really happy with where it's at.

Finally had time to sit down with my new Eikons and do a quick AB test against the Aeon. No contest really, much nicer all around. Bass goes deeper, is tighter/punchier, larger soundstage and better instrument separation in busy sections, more forward mids (suits me perfectly) that give a more clear/detailed sound overall. It's hard to put into words, but the sound is just far more "realistic" and putting on the Aeon after the Eikon leaves me thinking that they sound a little artificial.

What the Aeon does better is comfort and isolation. My wife says she can hear music coming out of the Eikon more than the Aeon. Also, comfort-wise the Aeon sat on my head a lot nicer and the lower weight was really great in comparison to the heavy Eikon. Definitely going to miss that.
