i didnt ask abt between 90pro vs ck10 'cuz i havent them neither, but Cks70. Also i consider 90pro as an upgrade of Cks70 with some added treble -hope i'm not wrong at all.

But Ck10 would stair me upon the clouds, i feel like that, nothing more

Anyway, i think i have made up my mind towards Ck10. I can get it just because of that 3D feeling and nice treble.

Okay, after a few days listening and experimenting with/without foam, I finally found that without foam the 90Pros are just a tad sibilant - nor could I get filters to stay on the completely smooth opening.

My solution then was to take the foam I removed from the 90's, cut 1/4 off, and reinsert that one quarter of foam back into the nozzle! Thanks to the acoustic horn shape it can't be inserted too deep, and I gave it a bit of a shake to make sure that small piece of foam wouldn't just fall out into my ear canal and cause some horrible infection. It seems secure so far.

As for the sound, with 1/4 of the foam left in to my ears its as good as it can get for the 90Pros I suspect. It loses most of the muffled quality of the out of the box 90Pros, and stays smooth to boot. Listening to some sine wav sweeps, there are still two peaks in the treble, but they don't irritate my ears like they used to.

I also experimented with the other 3/4 of the foam, but found that that just sounded muffled again like the old 90Pro of yore.

As you would expect, there is some direct relationship between the amount of foam and the amount of treble. It makes me wonder why they put so much foam in in the first place. It almost feels like, along with the bad packaging, plastic rather than titanium construction, etc, AT wanted to preserve a greater price differential between the CK90Pro and the CK10.

EDIT: This means I can also turn off the EQ completely on my Walkman! Less hiss and thus greater dynamic range. Hoorah!

Thanks for letting us know. I guess I will have to try to put a little back in. I don't find the treble to be bad 90% of the time, but that 10% can be brutal.

My initial impressions of CK90pro

 


I bought them to compare with my CK10 and i'm not disappointed. "More bass and added warmth with reduced treble" - 100% agree with this Joe's summary.
I would even say that it's exactly the sound i tried to get from CK10 with equalization. And i don't hear any sibilance! Will try to add/remove the foam, but so far the treble amount seems just right.
 
Build quality is not as bad as i thought after rawrster's review. 
The build is actually good, thought inferior to CK10, especially in cable quality.
 
CK90pro are clearly designed to be worn cables down. They can be worn with cable over the ears, and it's quite comfortable, but they stick out this way.
 
The best tips for me are sony hybrids. Big monster triple-flanges are to big for my ears, with small triple-flanges i get good seal in the right ear, but lousy in the left.

Great photos Tiax, I was wondering if the CK-90Pro can get the same treble as the CK10 without the foam? looks like both have the same specs.
