An audiophile and petrolhead's journal: Buckle up!

Hey! I just discovered that Netflix has The Tick TV show series (with Patrick Warburton as the Tick) - all 9 episodes! Not as good as the animated series, but a good way to kill 4.5 hours. It's so bad it's funny...

BTW, many if the animated episodes are on youtube.

In Ferrari's defense, that is a pre-production factory prototype that's been ridden hard by probably 250+ people with >50k hard miles on it. For a supercar, it's been thoroughly hammered.

996/1000 pt `59 Jaguar XK150S 3.4L Roadster, it's had a refresh and detailing, but is mostly unrestored.

What a beauty. I really debated bidding on it (that was a fair price), it's likely the best one in the world, but that really needs to go to a true Jaguar enthusiast who will fawn over it and rub it with a diaper every day.

Is there an XK120 or XK140 out there in similar unrestored condition, or is that the sole remaining example of the XK lineage that hasn't been restored or left to rot?

If I owned an XK Jag, I would want one I could drive. I wouldn't want one that was too rare and valuable to be anything other than a pin-up poster. A car like that should be in the Mullin Musuem.

It's largely American muscle, and that really isn't my cup of tea. The Shelby Super Snake would be cool, but I'm thinking that's going to go for 8 figures, being only 1 of 2 ever made. Yenko Camaros and the like don't do much for me, they aren't what I'm into. They'll bring a hefty profit though, B-J will make sure of that, no matter what they have to do. (I detest those guys.)

I like the GM Futurliner, but there's no freaking way it's worth $4M. There's also no way I would want to buy a car that set an auction record at B-J. That just means you paid 10X what it was worth.

The Futureliner and Super Snake are the two biggest money draws of the lot, probably, but he bought both of them for record or near-record prices. I agree that the SS is definitely worth the money he paid and more to the market, but it might have shifted hands too much in recent years to go for such a high figure again right now. Some of his famous hot rods are also quite interesting.

I cannot see the Futureliner being a big draw. It's only real claim to fame is its owner overpaid for it by miles.

The SuperSnake will be the big draw and I'm sure Barrett Jackoff will make the most of it's star value. Other than that just one of their typical auctions aimed soley to inflate prices on mass production cars.

I firmly believe Achmed would want us to celebrate his life, not sink into depression. He was one of "us" - and that's how I'm going to remember and honor him.

Magick: When is your wife going to let you take a break from shopping and visit another auto factory? :p

I have to agree, still shocked me, though. It's that feeling of, "he was just here, What?" :frowning2:

That's always heartbreaking; it's the same sort of thing that happens when you walk around the house finding old cat toys from a pet who's passed on, or when a painter dies and leaves a half-finished work on the easel.

This morning I was at a local auto parts store (part of the O'Reilly chain) buying a little stick-on spot mirror. The kid helping me looked out the window and said "Do you know what kind of car that is?" When I looked, I wasn't sure what he meant - all I saw was one of those ugly first gen Datsun/Nissan 300ZX from the mid 80s. I said "You mean the Z-Car?" - and he responded "Is that it's name 'Z-Car?' I just sort of stared at him at then said - "It's a Datsun 300ZX from the mid-80s." I guess I was just sort of flabbergasted that someone that works in an auto parts store didn't know what a "Z-Car" was...
