Amazon launches Music HD with lossless streaming

Not an issue in iOS, MacOS or WiiM. Just for the record.
You might be just confused what bit-perfect actually means. If source material is 44.1 it should be played at 44.1, if it's 96 or 192, it should switch bitrate matching the source, not play everything at what OS Sound/Midi settings bitrate set to.
Amazon never had it fixed, even their rep in the link I've posted confirmed that. May be it works with WiiM somehow, that I cannot confirm.

I am not confused. My DAP tells me the source bitrate and so does my DAC. WiiM, iOS, MacOS.

What hardware are you using? I would like to see if I can get it to work for me. Genuine question, not trolling. I don't have a WiiM, but I have a few DAPs and DACs.

My hardware is listed in my post:

Streaming: WiiM or iPhone or Macintosh.

DAC: any will do but I use Schiit. If you need the DAC to display the sampling rate only a few do that.

Thanks! My experience on my Macs or iPhone/iPads doesn't match yours with my Mojo 2 or Paw S2 (via USB) both of which indicate sample rate at the DAC. I don't have a WiiM or Schitt DAC though so I can't test those. It's a bit of a mystery to me... It's all good though, I was just trying to figure it out.

Is the Amazon Music app set correctly? No loudness normalization, streaming quality set to Ultra HD?

Yeah, mine is setup the same. I can't complain about the sound quality though at 192 kHz. More of a technical curiosity as I can't hear the difference anyway...

Looks like it can be WiiM specific after all. Great post going in depth with explanation, also discussing some controversy if it's really bit-perfect.

Well, not gonna buy one just to get bit-perfect when Qobuz works perfectly fine in Windows and Android with UAPP.

Not only WiiM. I play 192/24 out of Amazon Music on an iPhone or a Mac connected to a DAC… it just works.

That Reddit article is nonsense. It might have been a firmware update where with a problem but it was readily resolved.

I am done posting about this.

After doing I bit of research I am a bit concerned about what Amazon is showing as Ultra HD, HD, and so forth. I am trying to make sure I am correct here before posting but it is not meant to start, it will be meant to bring some context.

More tomorrow...

Cheers!!

There is an updated post pinned to r/AmazonMusic
https://www.reddit.com/r/AmazonMusi...n_music_and_how_to_get_true_lossless_hdultra/

Of course this quote from the post is utter BS, esp. when referring 7 year old article, ASIO always worked bit-perfectly and with the introduction of OS native WASAPI exclusive you don't even need device specific driver to support one. The whole point of bit-perfect is that you can bypass that "internal processing" and send unaltered stream straight to the DAC.

I will even go beyond Amazon Music and say that if you want good quality sound, you should stay out of the windows audio stack in general as the internal processing is rather terrible. This is explained more in the following article: https://nihtila.com/2017/01/16/bit-perfect-asio-drivers-to-solve-issues-with-windows-audio-quality/

I disagree that’s a “great post” - even the OP mentions in the last comment that it’s an “old thread and retired”. Better consulting his longer post at https://www.reddit.com/r/AmazonMusi...n_music_and_how_to_get_true_lossless_hdultra/ although he does have a soured view of WiiM from a particular point in time which is no longer relevant imho.

Edit: just saw this link in the previous comment, sorry.
