The results of this auditioning would be very interesting.

Besides, the K-280 had a fairly low impedance...

I have owned and enjoyed my Sennheiser 420s for many decades. I also have Sennheiser HD 202s for computer listening. Enjoy what you can afford since it is hard to spend too much on headphones!

I think it simply depends on what works for you. Some claim that even former flagships should only be used as paperweights nowadays, others recommend to shop for used quality gear instead of modern entry- to mid-level phones. Whatever people say, you have to decide - because you are the one who has to listen to your phones.
 
I have a K280 and find it pretty good - super-comfortable, easy to drive, insanely loud if you want that

and nice-sounding. Whereas I like the overall sound of my K240M better, the soundstage is much wider with the K280. I use them for piano practice and they do a good job at that. Listening to music with them is fun, too.
