Most cd players are not grouded through the IEC's pin, but the interconnection cables with other audio equipments such pre-amp and amp.

Is circuit ground tied to the chassis?

And if not, would it worthwhile grounding the chassis to the iec ground pin, and using a power cable with ground?

There should be new units avaiable from tommorow with this issue fixed.
Hopefully they will be avaiable by tommorow, and my unit will be shipped.

can't wait

Did anyone get a black unit?

Eddie said he only has silver, has that always been the case?

Apart from the mod mentioned above (snipping the capacitors and adding a ground wire) the latest mod is "a big occilator that is better than two pins one with shielding" (sic).

Soon there will be a replacement for this which is a "Tcxo which will make more difine and detail".

The implication is that this will be user replaceable.

Not sure what all this means and if it has any relevance if one only uses the fixed outs.

Eddie has added a socket in the latest batch so the oscillator can be user replaced with a Tcxo in October.

I prefer the sound from fix out on 7.2x, I don't know will these modification effect fix out. (certainly had fun to play with variable out/fx2)

I am also wondering if lower the output on fix out(volume) can produce better sound. (by default the fix out is very loud)

Anyway, looking into the Tcxo in mid-Oct. (hope it is user friendly enough or I will need expert to do it for me.)

To Gastin: No, I don't know about it. We could put a list of questions and ask Eddie.

Update: received the tool needed to open the case from Eddie

(it says: following the instruction on Head-Fi)

Update: received VDH MKII this evening

(it arrives in three days. I say USPS did a much better job than UPS.)

The box

The cable itself. It is thinner than I expect, but don't get it wrong. My system sounds much better. I have warmmer sound, better defined mid-range, but the treadoff is less separatoin on highs. Until now, I think I just fully unleash the potential on my STAX phone.

The PureAV kit. I just returned it today.

My conslution: If you happen to have 3.5mm optical out. Do NOT use the apadter. I am glad I bought the Opto MKII, not the fancy glass DX1.

Has anyone seen the new headphone amp that it looks like DIYkits.com.hk is selling in the Citypulse cases? Check out the site for more details and pictures, but it would be good to get some thoughts on the amp itself, and its quality, based on the photos of the internals.

Wow, looks pretty impressive. Hell of a price at $208US plus shipping. Wonder what those metal boxes are in the amp section? And is this a discrete design with those opamps in the middle performing a function other than amping the signal or is this an opamp design?

Sean:

It appears that the metal (?) square boxes are discrete op-amps, like the Citypulse DAC. The IC op-amps appear to be voltage regulators.
It also is a dual-mono design, with two toroids and two power supplies. However, unlike the Citypulse DAC, there doesn't appear to be an easy way to switch to 110v. (by switching connectors), although the toroids seem to have dual windings.

I'm guessing it's not suited for low impedence headphones. I wonder if this is a rip off of the CEC 54R or whatever that CEC headphone amp is that doesn't get much press. If the DAC is supposed to be a rip off of a CEC DAC, it might make sense, but I don't know.

Anyone know if Eddy would give a break on shipping if one was to purchase this along with the DAC? I guess it makes sense to wait for the reviews to come in first, and there is also the issue of it being 220v.
