wbjia,

I was wondering, are the sound and features of the D-555 similar to a D-350...I have one that is soon to arrive! I took a chance knowing that I've seen the 350 mentioned as one of the top ten best sounding older Sony players? In general, am I close to correct about the above assumption? Thanx for the input

Yes, they are similar. You can hear more detail on 555.

555 isn't worth 180$! ......even it is the best portable cd-player of SONY.

I'm not sure it is Sony's best. I've spent some time this evening going back and forth between D-555, D-303, and Denon DCP-150. The Denon and D-303 are too close to call, but both of them seemed to get just a touch deeper into the music than the D-555. Possibly the DSP affecting the line out could be compromising the sound just a touch.

Right now, my vote for the best Sony pcdp goes to the D-303.

Note: I'm referring to line out use only. Amp was Fixup Supermini v something or other with booster pack driving Grado RS-1. All players used external battery packs.

I have a D555 now

I must agree with the general consensus here that the line out is better than that of the D777 and E905, has a lot more vitality

Shame I can't really comment on the headphone out though, the left channel both distorts and is distant in the treble

Hopefully a cap swap could bring it back to life... but looking at all those screws... intimidating

Oh... FYI... you can buy BP2EX batteries from here... I'm not sure about shipping o'seas...

I'll let you know soon if they deliver the goods (the fact that they show the 14WM is a little worrying.. time will tell
