I think you missed the point.

1) Why can't you simply stick the 8 leads from the TO99 package into a DIP8 socket?
2) Why would you use TO99 instead of DIP8 if your application has a DIP8 socket?

The question of TO99 vs DIP8 notwithstanding. This new information also begs to ask the question of why are you using 2x LME49710 instead of a single LME49720?

Yes, and several people (including a few NSC engineers) claim that the TO-99 packaged LME's sound better than the DIP-versions.

Still, I'd wager that the differences between different op-amps are far greater than the differences between different packing types of the same op-amp, so IMHO the question is still valid - is it worth the extra effort?

Dunno... depends on what "better sound" is worth to you. I've switched to using two singles for critical applications.

Another option is to carefully bend the legs to fit into a dual DIP adapter.

Basically what Im trying to find is something that sounds like LT1364 with a better sound stage, I really liked the opa627's sound stage but its a bit dark for me and in some songs the vocals get lost in the base...

Leeperry, what do you think of the burson hdam?

well, you want two LT1363 on a browndog basically...same sound, but much clearer SS, wider center channel and less colored/distorted.

even browndog say that their adapters offer the highest separation between the 2 channels...and it's dead obvious anyway, I would never use dual opamps ever again tbh...whatever as final buffer or DAC LPF(even for the two polarities of the same channel), dual opamps are completely worthless IME...I'm entirely willing to believe that 2*49710HA sound much better than 1*49720HA(which I found boring after a little while)...I basically see it as balanced/unbalanced.

Burson sounds good, hah

their v2 is basically an improved OPA-Earth, wider and more natural SS and much less distorted sound...I like them as much as I like AD797B or LT1028A, these are 3 excellent opamps IMHO.

I often prefer AD797B as DAC LPF, but LT1028A or the Burson v2 are a tough call...depending on the surrounding design, one might win...but why choosing when you can roll then every weeks for a change?

LT1028A is killer, but Burson gives a more colored "tubey" sound...but in a good way, like very thick bass, creamy mids, holographic SS and non shrill trebles

Great, thanks for the reply! Well Im gonna try the dual LME49710, the LT1028 and LT1363. The 797 might not work in my dac so Im gonna steer clear of them. Can the bursons be mounted on sockets? Their website says no...

np! 1028 is pesky and only stable for <1 gain..yes, solder them w/ cardas solder on gold plated machined sockets and you're good to go.

Probably better to quote some measurements from an opamp datasheet rather than marketing fluff from a company trying to sell adapters to audiophiles.
After comparing the measurements between single and dual packages then we could muse as to whether it's likely any human could hear a difference under normal operating conditions.
