Your ears shape what sounds neutral. They are very much mechanical and predictable. Your brain interprets signals, and is subject to a vast number of biases.
 
So trust what your ears do (or more accurately don't do) to the sounds of a headphone. But never trust your brain when it comes to stuff that doesn't matter, like many amps, most DACs, and nearly all cables.
 
Another way to put it, trust what you think sounds good, but don't trust your brain if it tells you it's the result of anything but itself. I think that's a more succinct way to interpret it for the subjectivists out there, and words for pseudo-objectivists to start living by.

186 - Often members are desperately arguing at head-fi. Repeating the same thing again and again ... If I say : "The srh940 sound as good as the hd800. The srh940 have a sound quality that compares favorably to the hd800. The srh940 trumps the hd800". Would you believe me ?
