My request: Go to Ayam-ya Ramen if you get time. It's not too far from Big Sight and friggin' delicious.
I'm staying in Akihabara so that's pretty close (1.5mi), will do, I'll likely cross it on my random photo walks barring any serious re-injury (might have sliiiiightly stress fractured my foot from running too much a couple months ago).
So the last time I was in Japan was late 2011, I got the Lumix GX1 and the Panaleica 25mm f1.4. It was really fun only having a 50mm equiv prime hahahaha. This time around I'll be able to borrow a friend's Panaleica 15mm f1.7 for the more tighter city/indoor shots. If I were to get the used S1 (~USD840) I'd get the cheap Lumix 50mm f1.8 (USD280) and MAYBE the 20-60mm f3.5-5.6 kit lens (USD250), it's slow but with the inherent ~2 stop sensor advantage it'll all come out in a wash, right? Or I'll just rely on a phone for any wide-angle shots.
The G9 NEW in Japan is like ~USD570, used is ~USD435. I was chuffed with the performance of the old GX1 at the time so this still has to be at LEAST a one stop sensor upgrade in addition to resolution (16>20MP), not to mention actually having IBIS. I used the Topaz AI trial to clean up some of the old GX1 ISO 3200 shots and I'm just blown away by what noise reduction can do now (it felt like 99% of my shots were ISO 1600 or lower, Tokyo is bright hahaha).
URRGHHHH YE OL' HEAD-FI TEACHINGS ARE TELLING ME TO JUST GET BOTH, A USED G9 IS SO CHEAP IT MIGHT AS WELL BE A LENS CAP LOL(?) I think the G9 will be more than enough for my holiday family happy snaps, I'm not a content creator ahahaha. The S1 or other full frame cameras will only get cheaper, no rush I guess? It can wait until the next trip....unless I fall in love with the S1 trying it at the store....I just want the light up buttons...
