Thanks!
What keeps you this busy, if I might ask?

Well I used to be an engineering student in NYU, but gradually I became extremely depressed and realized it wasn't my thing since I focus a lot of my time on making music, which I realized I take more seriously than others. I used to help a few conventions with PR and setting up concerts, but I quit that, too since the staff was unprofessional. My father owns a branch of day schools so I usually help out with the accounting and IT stuff, usually being the only guy doing all of that. Plus, after I dropped out of college, my uncle offered me a job helping him run a training center for Software Testing (Quality Assurance stuff) and he says he can hook me up with a job after a few months so I'm not complaining. To add to that, I saved up money from an internship(high-paying, too) during my last year in college, so I decided to start my own independent record label of sorts. The label is essentially an American Punk Doujin label and I'm actually working on making a zine for it, too. The problem is it is extremely hard finding reliable people, so I have taken the time to teach myself pretty much everything including, art, animation, video editing, web design and (surprise, surprise) music production. Basically, I'm a one-man show for everything until I gather up enough revenue and connections to start hiring others. Of course, nothing is launched, yet, I'm still acquiring connections and making the business plan, but I am already working on a few albums to be released much later in the future. Also, I'm writing a novel :p

I guess to sum it up, I'm a bit of a work-oriented guy since my "breaks" are really days where I use my time for something productive, but I'm happy about that because everything I do actually means something, even stuff that other people say is a waste of time like watching anime or playing video games. People "worked" to make those things, and if you have the right perspective of how you benefit from doing things(every time I watch anime, I pay attention to the writing, character development, etc that I can use as a reference for my novel), you'll have a positive mindset and will get things done.

Totally not a secret. Move along.

What game is that?

The remake of Rise Of The Triad. Came out today. GAF is positive about it so far, maybe except for the technicalities - can run pretty bad (<30 FPS) on some PCs, even fairly good ones. The dev is working on patch, though.

Also, it's that badass:

Wow, you have quite the story right there!

Let me know if stuff happens or something. We would like to have a independent record dude here :)

That is pretty impressive!
You CV must be like 10 pages long :)
A friend of mine is organizing a lot of Hardcore concerts in Hamburg and he also set up an online merch-store.
He even put out a fanzine, but stopped after like 6 issues. Too much work, he says.
Me and my brother are helping him with his concerts from time to time. Selling beverages, kicking drunken dudes out of the club etc.

It's really handy to keep up to date with what I watch.
Anybody mind going to the anmusic tourney link I posted and check on F/Z's Oath Sign>? There's an annoying high frequency note going off frequently.

I do not listen to that song often, but it may just be the file they have?

Long time no see guys. What has happened recently?

Well anyway, 2 days ago I went to my local Jaben store and they had something quite special. It was the Abyss.

I was baffled on why they would stock these super expensive headphones that doesn't really measure like a $5500 headphone according to Innerfidelity. But anyway, they told me that they had already sold one unit to a rich fellow so I definitively need to have a listen.

I was using my HP-P1 through a Bakoon HDA-5210 mk3 Amp.

First thing you notice is the very weird/ugly looks and I agree, it's not a looker but the materials and build quality make up for it. When I held it, I was surprised on how light it was, lighter than my HE-500. The construction is very solid and it will take a lot of force to actually break it and the pads are real leather which is nice.

In terms of ergonomics it didn't do well. There are not many ways to adjust the fit but even if you get a perfect fit, it will still be weird to wear it on the head and not very comfortable. The pads can be removed or rotated easily thanks to magnets and pegs but what about the sound? Can it match the SR-009 in sound?

Note: The first listen was done on high gain and the pads didn't create a seal at the bottom of my head but they said it was fine.
First time listening was a bit disappointing actually. It was very much behind the SR-009 and worse than the LCD-3.
The first thing I noticed is the very, very sharp and sparkly treble that was hurting my ears quite badly.
Second are the lows. They are similar in quantity and quality as the HE-6 but not as much quantity as the LCD-2/3 but I was more impressed with its tightness and speed. It really was fast and dynamic.
Mids were very good with nice instrument separation with forward and airy vocals but not as rich as the LCD-2/3. Soundstage and imaging was impressive and detail retrieval was amazing but it's not as resolving as the HD800 so it plays nicely with less well mastered music but overall the frequency response was fairly neutral with an elevated treble that really was fatiguing.
After I gave my impressions to the people who work there, they said that they didn't find it bright, rather very dark in fact. They then wondered if the lack of seal messed the treble and bass so they rotated the pads a bit and now it sealed my head perfectly. I also put it in low gain after that.

Second time listening was much, much better. The bass is now much more present and has actually a bit more quantity than the LCD-2/3 but with much better speed and dynamics and impact which makes it a very fun sounding headphone, the music just jumps around and never misses a beat.
The annoying treble was toned down but still very much present, around the same quantity as the HE-6 but still sparkly sounding that gives a kind of unnatural, unrealistic metallic tone to cymbals and the likes.
I also noticed that the vocals were a bit thicker and richer. It was still airy and I could hear the singer breathe in and out but it was still bested by the LCD-2/3. Then I did play a bit with the clamping force by pulling the drivers a bit further away from my ears and I noticed a much more elevated bass response which I think is normal in planar magnetic, my HE-500 exhibits the same thing as well.
Overall, after a perfect seal, I think that this is a great headphone that deserves to be in the top of the line group but I do not think that it's as good as the SR-009. Better than the HE-6? Very much. Better than the LCD-3? It was a bit better but not $3500 better.
This headphone sounds like as if an HE-6 married an LCD-3 and had a baby but still, If this headphone had a price of around $2500 then I would think that it's definitively worth every single penny but $5500? I would think not twice but a multiple of times and probably just go with the SR-009 and be done with it. It's a valiant effort for a first timer but it still has a long road to reach the peak of the mountain.

TL;DR: A very good headphone that overcomes the criticisms of the HE-6 and LCD-3 but still behind the SR-009 and a price that's very much not worth it.

Fine review, post it in the abyss thread. You think they won't like it? Screw them, this is HF and opinions like this are what posts should be and not their childish chatter. Send Curra and Warren on their arse's if they complain

Thanks for the impressions, glad that the abyss at the very least has the qualities to be a top set.

But seriously past $1500, headphones will be at any price you want. It's like a random number generator after that, choose any number you want.

One of the more frustrating thing with anime is that I've watched something once either in AXN Asia's Saturday morning slot of anime between 7 to 9 (since I remember waking early as if it's a school day. And no school kid wakes up early on Saturday. That's crazy.) or on Animax Asia, and trying to remember that one anime just based on this only: there's a chick, which have a small plain metal buckler (it's a shield) (or is it a mirror like shield?), in a fantasy-ish setting with magic of course, and the only other thing I remember is that the shield can glow for some magic power. Oh and she left her group for some reason. And that's that. And it frustrates me to no end to find that again.

Looked that AXN Asia's and Animax Asia's listing and the closest ones are Eden's Bowy and Escaflowne, but it feels wrong somehow. Like there's another anime that's not listed for some reason and I can never find it. Only thing is to watch both of them I guess.

I have not watched both so I can't help you on that sorry.

I agree, the diminishing returns past $1500 is too steep, hell I would think that the HE-500 is the last headphone at its price point to not be strongly affected by diminishing returns.

Though at the least, the cost of the SR-009 for me is justified since it's a more complicated headphone with even more delicate components but with the Abyss, it just doesn't make sense.
