I just received this item. And sq is nice mich better than software inside this box..
Fiio you need a lot of developing and fixing some things in firmware. I really missing ability to scroll position in track by holding ffwd or rwd buttons (physical ones) on disabled screen. I could say what bugs I found after 30 minutes of listening bit for what ☺

The problem that I have found is that it has problem with non ASCII characters in the tags, Chinese? characters instead of characters like é, à, etc

Another problem that I have found is that playlists are ordered by name, not by the order the songs where added to it

Thank you for sharing.

On page 3, they print that "It (X7) is faster in general usage and it updates the library faster as well" (than X5 III) ... "The X7 is faster and more reactive."

Don't both X7 and X5 III share the same CPU (Rockchip RK3188), same amount of RAM (1 GB), and same Android version ?

Why is there a such difference ?

Thank you

Stock X7 actually uses Android 4.4 which may explain a bit of difference in speed with the same chip.I do believe though that 5.1 beta is at an advanced stage now for X7 but still buggy.

Received mine today. Not had a chance to load anything onto it but been using Spotify extreme streaming.

First impression is that it's good but nothing is jumping at me as exceptional. Sounds a bit smeared, lacks focus and treble definition compared to my HRT Microstreamer out of laptop and has a narrower soundstage.

Will load better quality material when I get a chance later.

Anyone found this required burning in?

I'm curious about this as well since I'm in the market right now for a new DAP.  I can get a new X7 with the AM1 amp from an authorized dealer for ~$389 on eBay.  I realize the tech is a couple years older and only has 1 SDCard slot, but can anyone compare these two for roughly the same price which one they would purchase (X7 vs X5 III)?

ok thanks psikey i just cant justify keeping the Sony ZX2 it cost me a lot of money and i was thinking of selling it anyway ...so the x5 will suit me fine

That sucks, you only recently picked up the ZX2 correct? I hate taking big hits on gear, but the ZX2 I think as good as it is, just can't command anywhere near the retail asking price. Have you listed yours yet? I almost bought a ZX2 twice, but I just couldn't pay that kind of money for such low power output as I do not use IEMs so it would have to drive full sized headphones for me, and I also favour louder playback volume. It will be interesting to hear what you think of the X5III after having had a ZX2. Cheers.

Not sure if this was answered yet but what price are the Viper effect extras?

An insignificant price, 1$ - 2$

Really really poor output  power for all Sony DAPs I tested to date... Even for IEMs it can be too low. No idea why - it could be because they're limited in power.

Really happy that FiiO DAPs can power my headphones enough to make them fun!

There is a bass boost feature on the VIPER EQ menu. I cannot recall if that aspect was free or not, though. MOST of VIPER was free, others cost. I won't purchase any of the items that cost.

@PinkyPowers is the Bass Boost option on VIPER fee or not?...

some might have missed my point.

I was just pointing out that instead of badly implementing a feature (going by peoples impressions) why not give us something that will be useful.

Yes I know there is software eq installed in the unit, but you can't beat hardware boost.  As long as its done well,  a la iDSD BL.
